Panda?

FilmGeek basically hit the nail on the head as to why the ENT crew doesn’t use Uzis. Anything that could puncture the hull is a big no-no on board a spacecraft.

Energy weapons do an even better job at puncturing the hull since every time they get in a firefight, that’s what they’re being shot at with.

We now have Radio Disney™ in the OKC. AM 1560

wierd

I don’t think I’m buying the ‘they can’t shoot uzis’ explanation. They could certainly use 22’s without fear of puncturing a steel hull, and that’d still be more effective than the pulse weapons on ST:Enterprise. Heck, a bb-gun would be more effective.

You’re assuming that the pulse weapons are ineffective because they’re wimpy. Perhaps they’re ineffective because their attackers usually wear body armor – and phase pistols just happen to be able to bypass physical body armor?

I wonder if we’re better off just creating a thread for that purpose. We could call it “doper trek - a newcomer’s guide to the inside jokes” or something.

Or would that just take all the fun out of them?

A Trek Doper FAQ would be fine. It’d give us something to link to and who knows, it might eventually trump Cease Fire as the Trek thread.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. The “Panda” title on this thread is misleading. But I’m gonna have to see more of the new trek before I have enough questions about it.

Here you go.

Well, everybody’s going to have to remember to post to and refer to it when Qs come up.

Everyone remember where we parked. Golden Gate Park.

Just subscribe to it.

Even subcriptions fall off the front page of your CP after a while. Bookmark would be better.

Not if you use email notification like I do.

That feature is often slow, sometimes by days. It even fails on occasion. The only sure way is bookmark.

But, the main reason we’ll need to keep track of it some way, is that someone will ask a Q in a different thread (either a spoiler thread or starting their own) and then we will have to direct them to the FAQ thread.

If they ask in the FAQ thread, then subscribing will inform you of it, but we all know that isn’t going to happen. As soon as it leaves the front page, any new Trek Doper won’t know of it’s existence.

So, keep track of it. By whatever means works best for you. And then, remember to direct future Qs to it.

Enjoy!

If you’re subscribed to it, you can just click on the “Show all Posts from the past ____ days” button to find it. Easy enough.

Okay, Aes, you’re missing my point.

4 months down the road. Someone asks a Q in another thread. How many threads have you subscribed to in that time? Some of us respond to and subsribe to dozens of threads in a weeks time. Yes, you can scroll through the subscribed threads in your CP, but it might be several pages. If you you have it bookmarked, then it’s one step.

Personally, I don’t care how you do it. But, if we want to keep the FAQ page alive and worthwhile, we’ll have to keep track of it, one way or another.

I would also reccommend not hijacking that thread over much. Humor is fine, but we want to keep it mostly on track. A real FAQ for Trek Dopers page. Actually let it fulfill the purpose for which it was made. I’m probably the biggest thread pirate here, but we can all work to keep that one mostly pure.

You gonna eat that?

[munch munch munch]

No, you’re missing mine.

I don’t know how anyone else will keep track of the thread but I will keep track of it in the way that I’ve said since 1) I don’t subscribe to too many threads and 2) I do occasional spring cleaning to my subscription list since getting constant email notifications annoy the hell out of me anyway.
