I find it kind of funny that I get annoyed when guys come over here and put the seat ALL THE WAY down.
I do this. It’s so Kevbabe knows I put the seat back down. If I didn’t she’d swear I NEVER put the seat back down, because of the .001% of the time that I actually don’t. It also gets her in the habit of checking the status of the toilet before sitting, thus limiting the amount of wrath I incur for that .001%.
This is going to sound pretty lame next to the big ones that have been mentioned (unfortunately, I think I understand stupidity like religious strife, anti-homosexuality, and ethnic hatred) but the one I don’t understand is the toilet set up vs toilet set down thing. My wife insists that the toilet seat’s default position is down and that I’m a dickhead if I can’t remember that. She has actually called me from the living room into the bathroom to have me put the damn toilet seat down for her – because she’s apparently unable to do so herself, I don’t know. We even had a discussion about this. One of us has to put the damn thing up or down when we pee. If I find the seat down, I have no emotional reaction to having to put it up. But if she finds it up, she goes into full-tilt outrage over having to put it down. I just don’t get it.
Have you ever fallen into the toilet at 2 AM when your stupid brother forgot to put the seat down, and it was too dark to see?
I have. It ain’t fun.
Luckily, I’m married to a man who has never once forgotten to put the toilet seat down.

I’ll never EVER EVER understand this. Why wouldn’t you check before you sit down? I mean, in my house, I always put it down and my wife always leaves it down, so it’s down about 99.8% of the time (sometimes we have guests who fail to put the toilet seat down). However, on the VERY rare occasion that I wake at night with the urge to have a BM, I check to see if the seat is down before I sit.
If there’s any chance that I’m going to end up with my ass submerged in toilet water, I check. I don’t understand why so many women think they are entitled otherwise.

I don’t get the obsession people in the suburbs have about neighbors parking in front of their houses. My parents crap themselves in outrage when the neighbor across the street parks in front of our house even though they have a driveway for their cars. Why in the world does this matter to anyone?
Gahhhhh! I suffer from this particular obsession. Although I don’t have a driveway. What happens is someone will park in front of my house, and I’m thinking, “ooooo-yippie, company, but who’s this?”
Then they get out of their car and walk all the way back down the block more than 10 houses and 4 empty parking spaces back to their house/apartment. I’ve even seen them park like this in the freezing winter. I can’t figure it out. I think they are trying to hide from the repo man or something. Half the time their piece of crap cars die out and they sit there for weeks, getting their manditory parking ticket every monday. Grrrrrrr…

I find it kind of funny that I get annoyed when guys come over here and put the seat ALL THE WAY down. Instead of just putting down the seat part (that ya sit on), my brother and my boyfriend and some of my other guy friends put the top lid part down too which does me no good

I don’t get people who think it’s OK to call other people “asshole”, “dick”, or “fuckhead”, but if you (even jokingly) call someone a “cunt”, they look at you like you’ve just burned down an orphanarium full of choir boys.
I’m with you on this- my job you hear every swear word 20 times a day, but you say cunt and there would be stunned silence.
But cussing in general- feces OK, excrement OK, shit not OK- why?

Guns. Don’t like them? Don’t buy one. It seems simple to me.

I find it hard to believe that people actually think like this. The 29,569 people who were killed by guns in the U.S. last year might disagree with you on that point if they could still say anything.

I love when you roll your eyes like that. It makes you look like Norma Desmond.
In any case, this isn’t a debate forum. Either open a thread in Great Debates or The Pit and we’ll discuss all the things you find hard to believe about how I think.

I sit down to take a shit, and before I do the seat is up most of the time. What’s my secret? I put it down before I sit. I don’t, however, put it back up after I’m done, so if I come in later and need to piss, I raise it back up.
This is what I just can’t understand. Seat up and need to shit? Lower seat. Seat down and need to piss? Raise seat.
Don’t really want to turn this into a whole thread about this one peeve, but damn some people that this shit WAY to serious. If my ass is heading for the toilet, it’s up to ME to determine the proper position of the toilet seat. Indeed, it is one of the few tasks I dare not rely on somebody else to do for me.
Of course I’m single, this may be a clue as to why.

I’m not aware of a single instance where a *gun * has killed someone.
At any rate, if you want to debate the matter, take it to GD.

Poorly designed guns can go off without warning; I recall there is a Chinese made rifle that is prone to firing bursts if bumped ( the NRA supported importing it ).
Sure it takes a person to pull the trigger, but how many people are accidentally killed by fists or knives?
I am not sure about fists but it isn’t all that rare for people to be killed by knives or other sharp tools by themselves. Just the other day, I was reading about a toddler that ran, tripped, and fell into the open dishwasher at his house. His mother had the bad habit of putting the knives blade up in the silverware bin and the child impaled himself and died. This is strong evidence that kitchen knives and dishwashers should be banned or at least regulated at the point of sale.

I’m a woman and I can’t figure out how this happens either. There’s a pretty significant temperature-feel of the plastic/wood/vinyl seat and the porcelain of the bowl. You can easily feel it on the backs of your thighs and legs, so I don’t understand how people fail to halt their attempts to sit and end up falling in. Unless they’re very clumsy; I’m not terribly coordinated either right after waking up, but I’m not that uncoordinated. OTOH, I don’t understand why you would pee in the dark either. Doesn’t that make wiping up and washing your hands kind of hard?
Eh. If you want the seat just so, it’s your job to arrange it as such.
The whole food thing. What people should and should not eat. I agree with overseeing your own food itake, but when people start talking to me about what I eat, I want to smack them upside the head. I don’t give a flying whatever about your opinions on my diet.
I wish everybody would just let everybody else eat whatever the hell they want and keep their big mouths shut.

I have found through empirical testing, that I can’t tell unless I have my glasses on. If I wake myself up enough to find my glasses, put them on, and then get enough light to see the toilet, there is no easy going back to sleep.

What I think is most hilarious about their arguments is that they seem to have no concept of the actual interest that most kids have in the exact purpose of the shots that they are getting (in other words, usually almost none).
Everyone has to get an MMR shot when they’re little, but does any actual child know or care what MMR stands for? Hell, many adults don’t. I think the ONLY shot I ever got where there was substantial explanation of why I needed to get it was the occasional tetanus booster, and that explanation went hand-in-hand with the talk over why I shouldn’t play with rusty pieces of metal. There’s no real burning need to tell a child getting the HPV vaccine exactly what the HPV is and exactly how it is transmitted. I know that most kids are a lot smarter than adults give them credit, but it seems to me as if the explanation “this is a bad disease and I want to protect you from it” should suffice. The same could be said of every other vaccine, why is the HPV one so different? Discussion of the vaccine’s importance to a child need not be sexualized, especially if administered to young children.

When us girls got the rubella vaccine and the guys didn’t, we were told it was “because rubella is dangerous for a woman but not for a man.” There was never an option to opt out because “hey, I’m not going to get pregnant.”
What do you mean, not all pregnancies are planned?

Any other time of the day, I remember to check. At 3 AM, when I’m barely awake, it’s a lot more difficult to remember.
So yes, the impetus is on me to make sure I check, but it’s also common courtesy for my husband to put the seat down. He does to appease me, and I put the top lid down to appease him (he likes that down). It’s a lot easier to realize that I’m sitting on a closed toilet lid at 3 AM and lift it than to catch myself when I’ve already sat most of the way down (Did I mention I’m not that coordinated, either?).

I was reminded of this yesterday at lunch. I went with some other office gals to Red Lobster to celebrate a birthday lunch. I got slaw, rainbow trout, and fries. The plate came out with a metric s***load of fries and a small pile of poorly steamed veggies (the carrots were crumbly). At the end of the meal, one of the ladies saw fit to fuss at me (loudly enough that other customers turned and stared) for not clearing my plate.
