Yeah! And don’t think you can bully your way into the “foolish fool” pose because that’s MY turf.
Hmmmm, “Panzerfaust” is also a white supremacist record label. You’ve placed yourself in some FINE company with that user name.

In all fairness, I used to want a german punk band called “Panzer Division”.
Mr. Panzerfaust and myself really dug this Pansy Division cover that a friends band did… so one day we decided it’d be cool to translate punk songs into German and call ourselves Panzer Division.
I don’t think this makes us supremacists.
As for the nature vs. nurture argument, I’ve chosen to stay out of it for the same reason that the South Park kids chose to stay out of the Christopher Reeves episode, (I’m not touching this one. C’mon… lets just go play with trucks. Yeah, let’s play with trucks instead) it’s an emotionally charged argument that I don’t feel is necessary.
I honestly couldnt’ care less if someone is gay because they were born that way, raised that way, or hit on the head by falling alien debris.
Homosexuality isn’t hurting anyone, I don’t feel the need to justify it via genetics. If someone disapproves of you being gay, no amount of gene mapping is going to change their minds.
Being overweight runs in my family. I am also overweight. In addition to being genetically pre-dispositioned to obesity, I find that starving myself, depriving myself of the unhealthy foods that I so live for and excersizing all the time make me an extremely unhappy individual who is living the way she is only to appease those around her.
As such, I’ve decided to accept not being thin… even though it’s outside of the respected norm. If you told me tomorrow that I’m fat because some of us are SUPPOSED to be fat, I’d still be just as happy as I am now.
If you told me tomorrow that I’m fat because I’m genetically flawed, I’d be just as happy as I am now.
I know why I’m fat. I’m fat because I’d rather be happily me than unhappily what someone else wants me to be.
I’m amazed that people become so rabid when this same argument is applied to homosexuality. For the record, I live with two lesbians and they FLIP at the very notion that who they are could be related to their upbringing or to a genetic defect, for that matter. I have a sneaking suspicion that their reaction is heavily influenced by the anti-homosexual sect that just waits to use any and all explanation of an alternative lifestyle against those who live differently than they do.
And that’s sad. Because now that it’s this emotionally charged, it’ll never be something that can be rationally discussed and hypothesized about, bringing it right up in the ranks with abortion, religion, and circumcision (JDT grin).
Sorry for the misunderstanding. I, myself, would never consider skydiving and just took my user name from the email account I was using for incoming consulting work since there wasn’t any business coming in anyway. But does everybody who recognizes the term assume I jump out of airplanes? Yep. Goes to show how one must expect people to jump to conclusions and to not be surprised if they do.
The point, malkavia, is that it’s such a complex combination of genetics/biology and a wide variety of unknown and uncontrollable environmental factors that we’ll never know. Panzerfaust, on the other hand, claims to, and then clings to his theories which have been discredited. I dunno - I’ll take the APA’s 40+ years of research into the matter of his opinions.
And I’m still waiting to hear about this alleged disagreement we had a year ago.
On a completely unrelated note, I, too, am a fan of Pansy Division.
Esprix
Right. Just like we’ll never know if god exists, when exactly life begins or whether or not you’d be different if you had your foreskin. (The collective “you”, not Esprix’s foreskin, whose whereabouts I am completely unaware of.)
Can’t help ya there. My memory is long overdue for a defrag.
Bunnies was the song my friends band covered. Good times.
Malk.
Um, not you, dear - Panzer.

So, it seems the answer is no, panzerfunkadelic is not going to answer any direct questions.
Why the obfuscation, pboy? Why can’t you simply address the issues raised instead of prevaricating?
Oh, and pun? You’re going directly to hell, you know.
Was unaware of that. Who can I talk to about changing the username?
Why do you keep asking questions when you refuse to answer any?
Can I ask a question too?
Sorry, just wanted to keep with the trend.
Panzer, email a mod or an admin, I believe.
I believe I covered that, and the answer is no, because the interest was flaming, as opposed to discussion. Flaming leaves the option for more flaming, and some stupid, towering argument that frankly, I’m simply not interested in pursuing. I read the data presented, I think about it, I make mental adjustments as necessary, but to be honest, your opinion, nor Homebrew’s, nor nearly anyone else on this message board impact me enough to care about addressing your specific greivences concerning that process. It’s obvious that the feeling is mutual. So. Agree to disagree, neh?
Two things:
If you aren’t interested in debate, you don’t expect to change anyone else’s mind, and you won’t allow anyone else to change your mind, what the fuck are you doing here in the first place?
The question people really want you to answer isn’t a matter of debate: how could you have an argument with Esprix a year ago when you’ve only been here for less than a month, unless you’ve violated board rules?
Misinterpretation. There seem to be a lot of these around here, so I’ll try to clarify:
I’m interested in debate, but not flaming. I’m interested in discussion, but not posturing. I’m interested in the exchange of ideas, beliefs, opinions, models, etc., but I’m not interested in dull, knee-jerk bitchfights. Disagreement is all well and good, and trying to change my mind is encouraged. However, my mind certainly isn’t going to be changed by trying to call to my attention what a “moron” I am, nor the list of synonyms to be found in the rest of this thread.
The argument didn’t take place on this board, it took place in an IRC channel, which I occasionally participated in. As far as I can recall, I’ve never posted on this board before the registration of this account.
REALLY?!?!? Based on something I said?
My heart is all a-flutter!
(nice things make drop all paternal)
It looks like you still have some OTHER ‘splainin’ to do, and I’ll warn you that Pit debates aren’t as dainty as Great Debates. There are some people in this thread who could cut your heart out with words. I recommend listening to them and doing some research into the current studies before saying much beyond “Yes, sir. I’m looking into it right now, sir.” Trust me, you can’t win. Take your licks and come back chastened.
Hmmmm… so you went to some gatherings only a month after you joined? At least, that’s what it looks like from this post that Esprix linked to.:dubious:
Wow! You just jump right in, don’t you!
You have shown no willingness to debate. You have continued to assert that you believe homosexuality is aberrent and a maladjustment caused by poor upbringing even after several people referenced recent research that contradicts your assertion. Instead of investigating that research, you reply
If you haven’t seem much reliable evidence, then you’re ignoring the previously mentioned research, most notably by Hamish just two posts after your first in that thread. You’ve also apparently not bother to examine the position statements and research. Where’s your proof that homosexuality is a maladjustment? And it’s going to have to be fairly persuasive because it contradicts the position held by the American Psychological Association,
the American Psychiatric Association
and researchers.
I find it rather disingenuous that on one hand you brag about being a “loudmouth” and when called on it you whine that people are flaming you. If you’re going to be a loudmouth and spout unsupported crackpot theories that have been discredited by researchers more than 30 years ago, then be prepared to take some flames. Or else go back to the boards at NickJr.
And if you think this thread so far has been flames, then honey you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. You just wait 'til Mockingbird gets here.
So after all the cites thrown at you, Panzer, why do you continue advocating your homosexual environmental theory?
And dragging fights from off-board - including IRC - is a no-no (although, as I said in e-mail, I don’t remember you or the exchange, but you seem to be still holding a grudge, even if you’re a little fuzzy on the details.).
Esprix
I’m not sure you follow, whatami. While Panzer’s actions and claims are questionable, they are entirely possible. He had an IRC spat with Esprix a year ago, has lurked on the SDMB for quite some time, and recently created an account. You don’t need an account to lurk.
And we know, insofar as it’s possible to be certain of anything regarding people we only make the acquaintance of through SDMB, that Panzerfaust and Malkavia were regular users of the Internet generally and IRC in particular for an extended period before they happened across the SDMB, thanks to the tragic story of their friend who suicided by overdose while on IRC and was egged on by people (I use the term loosely) as he did it. (Sorry for bringing up a tragic memory, gentlemen.) For them to have set up such a claim, and effectively portray the amount of emotional stress regarding it that they did, as an alibi against an accusation that Homebrew would (reasonably from what he knew and saw at the time) make substantially later would strain credulity.
Summary: Panzerfaust picked an unfortunate name, failed to make himself clear, may hold some decidedly non-PC opinions, but is not a returning sock nor intentionally trolling.
The above is of course IMHO, and is not intended to be in any way implying the conclusion of the SDMB as a corporate entity. That’s staff’s business, not mine!
