I hate this “but it makes the product more expensive!” argument. I’m sure child labor laws and basic safety regulations make the pizzas more expensive too. They are still the right goddamn thing to do.
Go fuck yourself Papa John, with a pipin’ hot pepperoni pie and a side of hot chicken wings.
Askthepizzaguy, you would have loved our house for awhile. We would order the kids a pizza before we went out and charge it over the phone. We instructed our daughter to sign for it and told her how much to write in for the tip. She always seemed annoyed at that part. After quite awhile of doing this, we found out why she was annoyed. She would write in the amount we told her, then, she thought that’s how much of a tip she was to give in cash. So if we said $5 tip on a $20 order, the guy would get that on the charge, then another $5 in cash!
OK, you’ve convinced me. I have been protesting the delivery dfee by taking it out on the delivery guy but no more. I will tip the same as I would without a delivery charge.
I won’t be ordering from papa johns ever again but presumably the labor market is fluid enough taht a papa johns delviery driver can get a job as a dominos delivery driver if enough people feel the same way i do.
Agree. I’m sure if those evil government regulations about rodent control were repealed, the company could save 15 cents/pizza as they would not have to pay as much for cleaning the store, or on pest control.
This pizza chain owner has made a moronic argument.
And Simplicio made a good point as well. Let’s see… If I have a choice between buying my pizza from a store that does not give a shit about the health of their employees making and delivering my food, or a store that DOES care about the health of their employees handling my food…
I’m gonna go with the healthy employees. Because I don’t like viruses and bacteria on my food, thank you very much.
Most of these “but it’s only X% of their profit, why are they bitching” threads start off the same way.
If it’s your expendable income someone wants to take, you bitch. It really is that simple.
From now on whenever I see that smarmy SOB I’m gonna think about the idiots whining about Obamacare. So even if he relents it will be a long time before I have Papa John’s again because I’ll be reminded of our 4 year long and counting Silly Season.
Because he’s part of the other half, and thinks the rest of the other half will be loyal, because he’s not just being selfish, he’s taking a Moral Stand. (Just not an ethical one.)
Don 't forget legal! The owner is not doing anything illegal, therefore he’s correct. You can’t criticize him, because he’s operating entirely within the law.
I worked at Pizza Hut in the early nineties. The drivers were paid at least minimum wage, and the delivery was free. The small pizzas were $8.99, medium was $10.49, the large $12.99. I have always wondered how these pizza places (Papa John’s, Pizza Hut, Little Caesar’s, Domino’s) could charge the same price for their pizza (or in many cases, LESS) that they did almost 30 years ago.
I’m guessing they posted that as a PR maneuver, because their name is similar to Papa John’s. However, Papa Murphy’s is almost, but not entirely, unlike Papa John’s. They just make pizzas at the store, that you take home and cook yourself. It’s a pretty sweet business model, unless your mom can’t cook pizza without burning it. That was a sad night!
On topic, I’ve disliked Papa John’s since high school, and that certainly hasn’t changed. They won’t get a dime from me, but they weren’t getting any of my dimes in the first place. I much prefer Domino’s or Pizza Hut when it comes to “chain” pizza (although I prefer local to any of them, since local places don’t usually charge a delivery [del]scam[/del]fee).
