I think I’m in love…
Wow, me too. I’ve been wondering what to do with all those stupid Robert Jordan books I bought back before we all realized he was crap. I can’t bring myself to just throw away books… so they just sit on the shelf, taking up a foot of space. No more! They are on the swap board!
Interesting. May I ask how long you’ve been with them?
I had a bad experience with bookmooch.com and was looking for an alternative.
Paperback swap is good if you’re trying to get rid of things that aren’t by “those” guys…Tom Clancy, Stephen King, and the rest. It’s because everybody’s unloading those books. However, a few of the books I’ve put up went fast. And I’ve gotten probably 7 or 8 books with no problem.
In all, a pretty nice little site. I highly recommend it, though I wouldn’t go as far as to say I’m in love.
Just been there a day actually…but from what I’ve read and seen (and heard now from CapnPitt), it’s a pretty good site.
Already have 15 books up. I turned my fiancee onto it too and she put up only four about two hours ago. Immediatly two were “reserved” as they were on other peoples’ wish lists and one of them has now been requested/accpeted. She’s set to mail it out Saturday.
So that’s, in essence, one free book for her now(by way of credits)…but they have this thing where if you post up ten books you’re willing to swap, you get two credits free (which equals to two free books (soft or hardcover) or one audio book).
For each credit you have (and you get one every time you send out a book to another person and they get it), that’s one book you can get yourself, free of charge, from another person.
Pretty good stuff. I can see myself being a main member there.

I love it. I not only get a lot of books I want without having to buy them, I can now buy things with much less guilt because I can always swap them.
What are your people’s usernames if you don’t mind divulging? I’d add you to my buddy list on there.
ETA: Wow, XaMcQ those are impressive numbers.
I put up about 13 books. So far, one has “sold” and one’s on reserve.
Unfortunately, I can’t find any books that I want. Seeing as I’ve already spent $3 to mail the one book that’s “sold” I’m hoping that I find a few I want!
My handle there is AthenaSDMB, since plain ol’ Athena was taken.
If you can’t find any you want, you can also add books to your wishlist, which then notifies you via email if anyone ever posts a book of theirs that is that one.
But I’ve really found they have a very wide selection of books already up. Me, I use the method of clicking on search, clicking all books…and then choosing the genre’s and sub-genre’s (of which they have a LOT).
Give that a try, Athena.
Oh, and my name there is kimsbun
Don’t ask. :o
I just started an account and listed books… my nickname’s Calliope.
I tend to like historical fiction, so I hope I’ll have good luck. I’m currently culling my collection of old fantasy novels, so this is a godsend.
IdleThoughts (kimsbun),
I registered and used your name as my reference. I love the site!
I have a hard time letting go of books but I really need to purge. I’ll give this site a try.
Hmm, I’m tempted, but I’m kind of intimidated: I’m not used to mailing anything bigger than a letter.
Me either. But according to the site all it really requires is wrapping the book up with paper and mailing it in the mailbox. They said it costs about $2.49 to 3.40 or so to mail a standard paperback. Dunno how close that is but it doesnt’ seem like too much. Maybe five stamps just to be sure.
Thanks for the referral!
My name there is Xa. They now offer printable postage, which is very convenient. Their printout wrapper works fine for an average paperback, but since a lot of mine have been oversized or hardcovers, I’ve just gotten in the habit of buying padded mailing envelopes from Dollar General, 2 for $1, which makes mailing a breeze.
I agree with XaMcQ, just buy a bunch of padded mailers for cheap. I’m not very coordinated, so I got frustrated with the printable labels (but I was sending several odd sized books). The padded mailers really make this simple though by only adding about 50 cents to the transaction.
If you’re doing a lot of trading, padded mailers can be had even cheaper. I bought a box of 100 for $30 on-line (forgot the company name) and they were big enough to mail hardcovers.
Oh, yeah, love PBS–I’m frosti there. SnakesCatLady mentioned it and I signed on a couple of months ago. I’ve gotten rid about 100 books and have a nice number of credits saved up to use in filling in some of my collections. I do box-o-books there as well.
Mailing is easy; I now have a nice supply of padded envelopes to reuse. And it rocks to get a new book in the mail.
Just joined, and am feeling weirdly validated because several of the books I listed are already “reserved”. I understand that someone else wanting them doesn’t necessarily indicate that I’m smart or a good judge of literature, but I’ll just pretend it does for now.
Gwendee is also my user name there.
