Right now I can hear the strains of a band playing *Waltzing Matilda * as the lunchtime parade for Australia’s Olympic athletes passes by my office. There’s quite a reasonable crowd of people lining George Street, all waving their flags and cheering enthusiastically, especially for the gold medal winners.
