Parents: Would you bribe your teen to dump their SO?

ouldn’t it be worst for parents to discover that their child is willig to dump someone for money than to have to cope with a girlfriend they don’t like much? Wouldn’t it poorly reflect on the morality of said child?

I don’t understand why they skipped taking the phone. That’s the first thing my parents would have done. And I wouldn’t have gotten it back without paying for it myself. Never mind a potential awful teenage boyfriend!

Hell no. As a friend said to his teen, “First you earn, then you spend.”

I think it’s a fucked up message from the parents, that you break up instead of solving the problem somehow else.

That was my first thought. I was in love for the first time at 16 - with a goth-type girl as it happens - and would have been aghast if my mum had tried bribing me to split up. It seems an attempt to commodify the girl (and love itself), so to my my mind is akin to prostitution. Do the parents want to teach the nephew to judge the value of relationships by financial worth? I pity the fools.
