"Parks & Recreation" - Season 6 Discussion Thread

Anybody else watch last night’s fantastic hour-long P&R premiere? I didn’t think there was a bum note in the entire hour and as Alan Sepinwall notes in his review, the show had so many parts/plots/moments that could have made an episode great on their own, let alone all put together in one episode.

Sepinwall says it better than me, so I’ll quote a portion of his review:

I liked it a lot; it’s a great show in general. I heard that the real reason for the London episode is that Chris Pratt was filming a movie in the UK. And the movie is the reason that he lost all that weight (which the character explained as the result of abstaining from beer).

BTW, I didn’t recognize the name of the distillery so I was confused when Ron Swanson first saw the building from the ferry.

Yeah, Pratt is the lead in the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie. The pre-credits scenes were filmed as part of last season, which is why the need to explain the change over two months (“I just quit drinking beer for a month.”)

I didn’t know of the distillery before this episode, but I did remember him mentioning it when describing his perfect honeymoon earlier in the episode.

The scenes of Ron at the distillery seemed a lot more like Nick Offerman shooting the shit with the workers at the place, don’t you think?

Some favorite lines:

“Hogwarts is fictional. Do you know that? It’s important to me that you know that.”

“This is the moment we’ve been dreaming of. You and me and our baby. And Tom. And his weird feud with our doctor.”

Ron mentioned it earlier in the episode, so they didn’t introduce it blindly.

This was a fantastic episode, and that writeup is a fantastic synopsis of what made the episode great. Henry Winkler doesn’t seem able to say no to a part, so it is fantastic when he gets involved in something like Parks and Rec or Arrested Development so we can have a chance to really see him shine!

By the “I gave up beer” joke I figured Chris Pratt must be in something big that made him lose weight. I had no idea he is in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. I wonder if the 3 months in London is because he’s still filming that, and they needed a good excuse to have him away. I don’t know if I would have noticed his slimness, but I did notice what looked like a different hair cut.

The scene of him at Stonehenge was just great. I love how Adam Scott’s character amongst his befuddlement at Andy he has such warm feelings towards him.

April’s monster crush on the wolverine hunter was really funny.

oops. I typed this up and left without hitting reply, I see some of my points have already been gone over and questions answered. Oh well. Terrific episode.

I had to look up the name when I saw it on the side of the, what I thought was a, barn since his eyes lit up. But then I realized he had mentioned it earlier in the episode.
I think that was one of my favorite sitcom weddings ever. Normally they get planned for a while and we all get to look forward to it it for a while. It was nice to see everything from the proposal to the planning to the actual wedding all take place in about 3 minutes. I watched that part twice. Leslie did a really good job (the actress).

“Diane ‘Tammy’ Lewis”

And Perd’s Poll.

I love this show so much.

My favorite line: “Enjoy the fact that your supreme overlords are a frail old woman and a tiny baby.”

The look that Donna gave Chris (specifically his crotch) after she asked him about his underwear was priceless.

It turns out Heidi Klum is more believable as a fictional Danish woman than as herself on “Project Runway”.

Ron reading the Burns poem at the end choked me up a bit.

That’s exactly why. He’s there filming so they used it as a way to get NBC to send production to London. Here’s an Instagram pic Prattsent out showing off his superhero physique (for those that enjoy that sort of thing), and he says there that he gave up beer for six months (and admits the pic is kind of douchey, but his brother made him post it.)

It was perfect, and so very Ron.

I loved Ron and Xena’s whirlwind wedding.

I think what made it even better is that, IIRC, we were led to believe that it was April that was pregnant at the end of the last season so there was no reason to suspect a wedding to begin with, much less one taking place in the first 5 minutes of the first episode of the season.

I enjoyed everything in this episode.

My favorite character has always and will always be Jerry.

It was made clear that it was Ron and Diane’s. The scene where she walks in and tells Ron she has to talk to him that was the start of this ep’s cold open was the last scene of last season. They made Andy think it was April’s pregnancy test but then they told us it was Diane’s at the end.

Anyone else get a kick out of Dr. Saperstein’s name? In Rosemary’s Baby, it’s Dr. Saperstein who is charged with delivering Satan’s child.

I need to go back and see if Ann Perkins is wearing a tannis root necklace.

Well, they kinda had to give him that name, since he’s JonRalpio (and I’m sure I spelled that wrong and I DON’T CARE so no one correct it) and Mona Lisa’s father and at least at some point at least one of them had Saperstein given as a last name (though I don’t recall the details of when).

I just loved that British Lord.

What else do you own?
Have you heard of Scotland?

He did call it.

Veronica Mars went on to be a Eagleton city councilor! Who would have thought?

“Why is everyone else so bad at eating?”

Line of the night.
