Give me a fucking break, Read_Neck. Hillary once had a meeting with Taylor’s wife to talk about the plight of Liberian children. That amounts to support for a terrorist regime? Whatever.
So what do you think of the Bush family’s long relationship with Osama bin Laden?
Actually it was your posts that sent me on this search. It’s a bitch due to the timeline. The Monrovia byline and a book about Taylor “compensating” Jackson for his diplomacy is not much. Since you have a personal interest and experience on this subject any light you could shed would be appreciated but if you’re wanting a pissing contest I’m busy, maybe later.
You know, Read_Neck, it wouldn’t surprise me a bit if Jesse Jackson had some shady dealings with Taylor. I’m not going to try to defend Jackson, I think he probably is the sleazeball that so many on the right believe he is.
With the Clinton’s, though, I doubt that anything more than a brief meeting and a photo op was involved. Clinton was a political pragmatist. There wasn’t much public interest in liberating Liberia (for those who even knew what it was. I can’t count the number of times that people thought I was talking about Libya when I told them I had lived in Liberia). Clinton may not have done anything about getting rid of Taylor’s regime but he wasn’t gaining anything from it either. Pat Robertson is extremely disingenuous and self-serving in his critcism of Bush in this case (and I can’t believe I’m defending GWB but I think he’s doing the right thing in Liberia).
I’m willing to call a truce (on this issue at least).
I agree about the Clintons and there’s not a lot to say about the “sweetness and light brothers” but Lester Hyman is the interesting guy here. He has got to be one of the best Beltway landsharks of all time. He had Taylor doing photo ops with the politically elite when he should have been doing time for theft and a jailbreak in Massachusetts. I wonder who brokered the Robertson/Taylor deal? “Abracadabra”, Taylor’s a born again Christian. If OJ would have hired him he could have been the Governor of California by now. The guys a zero on ethics but you’ve got say his clients get there moneys worth.
