I was wondering what happened to Paula Poundstone. I went to her show’s website http://www.totellthetruth.tv/ After Paula’s charges she remained on the site as a contestant for a couple of weeks with no mention of the charges. Then she was replaced with other cast members.
This plea was posted Sept. 12 so it is no wonder I didn’t hear it on the news. She is going to be locked up in rehab for 6 months and then put on probation for 5 years. It looks like she will get her kids back.
Whaddaya think? Does she have any chance of resurrecting her career? I hope not.
So, for being an alcoholic she should never work again. She admits that she put the children at risk and will do her time. In fact, she was already in treatment when she was arrested.
I don’t know if she should get the kids back (do they want to go back?), but I don’t see why you would hope that she is no longer able to earn her living (I’m not so naive as to say it won’t, but I don’t see why it should).
I think she was originally charged with molesting some of the children in her house. I dont know how this was reduced to child endangerment. She must have had a real good lawyer.
Also, I dont believe she entered alcohol treatment until after her arrest. She probable did that at the recommendation of her lawyer. That way Poundstone could blame it all on alcohol.
Or, perhaps the other charges were not true? Children with a history of abuse and neglect – such as the ones she adopted – do occasionally fabricate such things. I doubt the DA would have dropped or reduced the charges of abuse if he or she felt they were credible. Certainly she wouldn’t be getting the kids back (if in fact she is) if they were credible.
Or maybe it was the fact that having her kids taken away brought her up short and made her realize just how out of control her drinking was, and that she needed to get help right away if she wanted to keep her kids?
Although I see I did not make it clear in my OP, I don’t hope we don’t see her again because of her current problems, I just don’t thinks she’s funny. Her halting, whiney delivery just doesn’t do anything for me.
Still I have little tolerance for people endangering kids. Especially if they have the resources to come up with a range of solutions while they “aren’t themselves” like hiring fulltime help.
Jodi- Yep, those kids like to make things up, dont they?
BTW, if it was a male who was accused of molesting his step kids or foster kids, would you have said the same thing?
Also, how do you know that her adopted/foster children had a history of abuse/neglect?
Also. she is not getting back “her” foster children. I wonder why?
Maybe the D.A.thought that there was evidence of child molestation, but not enough to convict.
in which a perfectly normal child blithely claims to have been kidnapped for no reason whatsoever. So a kid who’s already been abused…
People are innocent until they are proven guilty. Even if they are accused of molesting children. It’s an amazingly simple rule to master, because, that’s always the case. People are ALWAYS innocent until proven guilty.
People like Infidel are the reason unfounded accusations can ruin someone’s life.
Hello Yue Han
No, people are not “innocent until proven guilty”.
If they were, O.J. would be innocent of killing Nicole, as he was never convicted of killing her.
Rather, people are CONSIDERED innocent until proven guilty WITHOUT A REASONABLE DOUBT.
Now, you’re right, from what I’ve read, sometimes kids do make up stories about molestation, but usually they tell the truth.
As far as Poundstone, she was originaly charged with child molestation or lewdness or whatever. She willingly plead guilty to lessor charges. This tells me:
1- The DA did’nt have enough evidence to convict on the molestation charges.
2- Or, Poundstone actually did’nt do the molestation.
3- Or, There was evidence of molestion, possible not enough to convict, and they got together and agreed to have Poundstone plead on the lessor charges in exchange for the DA dropping the more serious charges.
My stepdaughter will make up all kinds of stories if she thinks they will get her out of trouble. We can only hope that she is never asked leading questions by someone intent on proving some kind of wrongdoing on the part of my wife or myself.
Did I say that? I said kids sometimes make such things up. Not all the time, not most of the time, but sometimes. Because I know from personal professional experience that they do. I’m not being overly critical of kids – when your life has been fucked up six ways since the day you were born, maybe you do what you can to get help or attention.
Probably because an admitted alcohol problem would probably make her ineligible to serve as a foster parent, at least until the problem is handled. No doubt those children have already been placed elsewhere.
Maybe so, but that’s not what you said, was it? You said she must have had the charges reduced because she has a really good lawyer – the clear implication being that she’s reeally guilty. You can’t say that, because you don’t know that. In other words, you set out three possibilities in your post to YUE HAN, but in your original post – the one I was responding to – you appeared to be stating that she was guilty and somehow got off. As you appear to now acknowledge, you don’t have enough information to say that.
You can argue whether she entered rehab because she knew she might be in trouble, but she was physically in rehab when arrested. Cite.
Thanks for the clarification Mikemike2. I’ve never found Poundstone to be all that funny on TV, but I really enjoyed her the time I saw her live. I think the audience interaction works better in person.
