Same way you make fried ice cream; freeze the hell out of it first, then only fry long enough to make it light brown on the outside.
Is it true that since these troubles started that business at her restaurants has increased? I heard stories that there were lines to get in, but have seen no cites.
I should like to see some. And pictures of the crowd. Color pictures.
I see what you did there.
Roddy
I was an adult and a lawyer before I had ever heard this phrase. From another lawyer I worked with. I was just stunned. He’d never thought about what it meant, but I knew instantly. Imagine his chagrin when I explained it to him. He’d been using it for years.
Everybody is a little bit racist.
Are these confirmed instances? Or are these just the allegations in the suit? Because allegations could literally be anything.
Goodbye Paula Deen
Though you never threw that ball
You had the brass to tell yourself
Vile names abound you called
They called out of the woodpile
And they deep fired your brain
They set you on a bacon bar
And you apologized all the same
And it seems to me you fried your fat
Until you came unhinged
Never knowing who to sing to
Or what the weather’s been
And I would have liked to shut your mouth
But I was just a kid
Your pancreas burned out long before
Your big mouth ever did
Shocking news, and just when I’d ordered her new cookbook Fried and Prejudice.
All white, apparently, except for the first one in line.
Most of them look like they’ve been watching too much Paula Deen TV.
First two.
Ok, wait a minute. What we have here is an old, Southern person I’ve never heard of in controversy for racist slurs/behavior?
You’ll excuse me if I am not too disabled to type because of the massive heart attack brought on by this it-came-from-outer-space shocker of the century
The interesting thing I found about her deposition was that, when she admitted to having used racial epithets in the past, she added that now days it was never in a “cruel or mean” way. Gotcha, granny White Sheet.
66 is not that old. She was in her 20s during the civil rights movement. I’m assuming she want brain dead through the whole thing, so surely she learned sometime around then, or in the ensuing 40 years, that that behavior was unacceptable.
Yah well somehow I’m not surprised she didn’t. Crap comes out of the South. Which sounds like a terrible attitude- I guess I’m a bad person too.
In Virginia your mom would be “quality” and Deen would be “trash,” but you know what an insult that can be. For the rest of you, see the last scene of True Grit, where Mattie calls Frank James “trash” with all the vitriol a young lady of quality can allow herself to show. Which is far, far less than she meant, but Frank knew.
I barely know who she is so I cannot enjoy this as much as I’d like. OTOH, Wife does customer service for the evil empire of discount stores and all she’s been doing the past couple days is fielding calls protesting that they dropped their deal with her. “Folks just talk like that. They don’t mean nothin’ by it. And Southern people just love her cookin’.”
I should hope it wasn’t a mixed couple!
Thank you.
Almost all the senior managers in my ofice are in their 60s and older. Born and raised in Dixie, too. I guess if any should utter the word “nigger” around me, I should just roll my eyes and smile and say, “Massa, you is SO funny!” Apparently it is too much to expect people the same age as my parents to act like decent, respectful human beings.
I thought it looked like two guys, so if it was a couple, that would really piss off the bigots!
