I guess I learned never to snitch when I was a kid and I’m reluctant to do so. I think I may have reported two or three bad posts one day, but that was that. Don’t know what got into me that day.
The reason I’ve hardly touched GD lately was because of the insults thrown around there shortly after I joined.
But I’ll think about it. Maybe if I can reconstrue it as education rather than snitching, I may do my share.
PF just seems like he needs to grow up.
Still while I understand the banning and I’m not going to the mat for PF, it did disturb me a little bit that he got mod grief for hate speech and advocating genocide in some threads while Sevastopol didn’t.
Also, I add my Kudos to the mods for these threads. Its good to get the reasons out and prevent the lengthy, often wrong speculation that bannings of fairly long term posters generated.
You say you read the thread twice. All I can say is that you were looking for what you wanted to see.

If I can give you a simple reason about that thread–Paul wanted a debate or an argument. Jodi did not. Nor did tomndebb, nor did Tamerlane.
If you think that Paul’s cites were in the same class with Tamerlane’s or tomndebbs, then we have different standards of evidence, you and I.
My “wonderful Jodi” started a thread, about which I had serious doubts that we’d be able to make it to the end. But, some serious posters, among whom I consider tomndebb and Tamerlane, tried their best to present factual evidence to answer the OP.
Paul continued to post in a confrontational manner, and his “information” was not very factual, at least it could not be backed up by what I would consider sources that were credible. He was posting his opinions.
I moderate GQ. If you want to post info there, you need to consider your sources. If you want to post opinions, and diatribes, then take it to the Pit or GD.

I think there’s a qualitative difference between “being a snitch” and “helping law enforcement officials do their duty.” I just saw the woman next door beat her husband over the head with a shovel and bury him in the back yard, but I don’t want to call the cops because I don’t want to be a snitch. I watched out the window while a mugger beat up and robbed a woman, but I didn’t call the cops because I didn’t want to be a snitch.

Moderators can’t be everywhere and can’t read every thread and every post. There’s just too much. But we all want to have moderated boards. The only way to ensure civility is if y’all help us out by REPORT BAD POST. We don’t just take your word for it, we investigate, but it helps us have focused investigations.

I read the mod’s decision as “three strikes, you’re out”, meaning that it wasn’t the severity of the final insult that got PF banned, but the fact that he kept acting a jerk after multiple warnings.
What are the official guidelines on posting in “Poster X banned” threads? Can we say that he/she was a tool? Can we shout yippie-kayoo? Can we hold a party?

In ATMB, we are polite, factual, and well-mannered in any comments.
If you want to say “Yippee” or “Oh, shit”, go to the Pit forum and post there. There’s often a related thread in that forum, where the restraints of good manners and polite society are mostly gone. Mostly.

Regardless of the forum, it is still pretty foul to kick a fellow when he’s down. And when he can’t defend himself, that goes doubly.
If you don’t buy into my moralising, another way of looking at it is “tribute threads” stir up a lot of emotions. Some “Bannees” are berated so severely in the post nota that they immediately come back and sign on as a sock puppet just to try and clear their names. I’ve wasted a lot of witty rejoinders on deleted sock threads, I’ll have you know.
