Paypal question

When I use paypal, any payment I make takes several days to happen. I have a friend whose payments happen instantly. Scouring all the pages that seem relevant, I can find NO CLUE how to set my account to make it debit my debit card instantly, rather than function as a check that has to clear first.

Anyone have a clue? Thanks.

You deposit your money first. That takes a few days. Then you have a positive ballance on PayPal, which earns some small interest as it sits there. Then you redeposit any amount you spend, but the payment goes out instantly as long as it is less than the amount you have in your account at the time.

Unless your checking account pays pretty good interest, this costs you nothing. You can have the ballance back any time you want, but it takes the same two or three days you are used to.

Funny. My Paypal account is linked to one of my checking accounts, and clears instantly.

I’ll venture to say it’s the OP’s bank policy WRT use of debit card and clearing transactions made with same. Have you tried making a payment as a direct funds transfer from your checking account instead of using the debit card? Although I have a debit card, I linked the checking account directly in PayPal and it clears right away.

Have you tried a different card? Credit card maybe? see if that goes through instantly.

have you verified your bank account? (paypal sends you a few sents and asks what the exact amount was to make sure you are the legitimate account holder).

Yes.

My friend’s account is at the same bank, and hers is instantaneous.

I understand it’s possible to deposit first, and have some on account, but i don’t want to do that.
