pda screen repair - chicago

I steped on my m130 (actually kneed it while climbing into bed) and cracked its screen. Locally, there is nobody that can fix this. They did however offer to take it off my hands for $200.00 and have palm send me a new pda from overseas.

I have someone going to Chicago soon.

Can anyone give me a , name, phone number, email, website, or at least general location of a repair shop in the Chicago area that could fix my palm pilot?

Uh huh. I bet.

There are a number of mail-order Palm Pilot repair websites. Does the widget have to physically travel to Chicago for some reason in order to be repaired?

Google “palm pilot repair” to find more.

Also.

You may need to spend between $50 and $100 to get it fixed, if you do find someone to fix it. A new one with 8 MB RAM is only $99. There’s even an entry-level Palm with 2 MB RAM for only $69. Throw it away and buy a new one? Or is that pandering to the demands of today’s throwaway society?

I didn’t realize that they still made M100s. As long as you’ve synced it recently, you’ll be just as well off to buy a new one and sync it straight from your Palm Desktop, Unless you’ve got a particular attachment to your particular handheld, you’ll be getting some more benefits (non-broken screen, brand new battery, non-loose buttons, etc.). Since it’s the same price, it’s a no-brainer.

Be warned, however, that your sync might not work perfectly (I’ve heard of some syncs going the opposite direction and changing the state of the Palm Desktop to the state of the new Palm, i.e. empty), so make sure that you copy your files and put them in a folder in a completely different location on your computer before you attempt to resynch your new m100.

You could get it repaired from these guys:

The complete screen consists of two parts, the Glasstop (Digitizer) and the LCD screen. If it’s just a cracked screen with no black marks visible, then usually only your Glasstop (Digitizer) needs to be replaced. If the LCD screen is damaged then you need a complete screen replacement. The former is cheaper.

The m130 Glasstop (Digitizer) is available for US$30.

Who is offering you US$200 for the damaged m130 ? I think that’s a decent price. You can then buy a better device for a bit more.

No. You guys don’t get it. And as I read my original post, I see why. What I meant was that I have to pay $200.00 AND give them the broken palm. Then I wait several week (probably) and recieve a new one from overseas.

I figured if a visitor to the US could actually physically bring my broken handeld to a repair shop in Chicago, they might be able to fix it for pretty cheap and I could save the hassle of coordinating having it mailed to someone in the US and then having them bring it to me on their next visit.

I see from the info shared here that this might be around than $50.00 including labour depending on what actually has to be replaced.
