OH NO! The glass on my Clie broke

So the glass on my Clie (610) broke, and now I gotta look for a replacement. I’ve scoured the net for hours looking for a replacement glass, but to no avail.

I’m going to be doing this repair by myself, so I don’t need a “repair it for x dollars” site.

Any links will be greatly appreciated

If you really really really can’t find one, maybe you could expand your search to find a cheap used Clie. If it is broken (but the glass intact) I can’t see it going for more than a pittance. Just an idea.

There is also a forum on PDAStreet.com. It looks like you may have already tried there, but if it is only a cool coincidence you could team up. Good luck!

There is un-likely to be any sunshine in your scenario. Other than someone on Ebay with the reverse problem (good glass + bad electronics) you’re SOL a far as someone marketing the screen separately. Time to call your insurance company or get a new one.

You can find entire 610 units (factory refurbs) for $ 190 on Ebay. If you sold your damaged unit on Ebay for XX dollars to someone with good glass but bad electronics and got the refurb unit that will likely be your least expensive route overall in getting a functional unit.

I think its not the wisest choice to demand that you do it yourself, i found sites thatll do it for you for 60, but you dont want those. I assume its the regular 610 and not the 610c, but if it is, the replacement glass for a c can be purchased for about 55 from Get High Tech . So, my suggestion is to have somone do it for you, its not that expensive. Its not a common unit, so to expect readily avaivible replacement parts is wishful thinking.
Good Luck

it may not be at all easy (or even possible) for an amateur (no offence intended, but you did not give any indication of your level of expertise) to repair it - the ‘glass’ is more than it seems and is at least part of the digitiser and possibly part of the LCD display too. Replacing it will involve restoring some very delicate electronic connections.

I went upstairs and asked the Better Half, who owns one, “Somebody in GQ says the glass in his Clie broke–what should he do?”

He said, “Kick a dog.”

Seriously, though, he says you’re basically screwed. You can possibly ship it to Sony to get it fixed, but they’ll probably charge you $200.

Buy a new one.

Well, hey, he went online to his favorite handheld place http://www.palminfocenter.com/index.asp just now and called me over and said hey.
