It’s $29.99 for the first year if you sign up in the next three days; after that it will be $49.99, And the ad-version, which is currently available for $79.99, will go to $99.99 after the 14th.
For me, this is just another annoyance. The fracturing of streaming services is taking away shows from my current services like Netflix and Amazon, and is making me question the value of those services. But it’s also not really enticing me to sign up for any new services. I’m not paying more again for NBC’s streaming service, and ABC’s, and CBS’s, and Hulu, and whatever the hell else is on offer.
I agree with your thoughts although the $2.50 a month will be worth it for more EPL matches. As we face down a potential depression most of these services will fail.
Now you’re being all negative about Peacock, while just a month ago, you (or your doppelgänger) were down on HBO Max. What is it with you and new streaming services?
In addition to the free service, it seems like NBC is rolling NBC Gold into Peacock Premium. It may be worthwhile to pay $5 a month for extra Premier League matches.
Oh FWIW, I’m really enjoying HBO Max - seems like it’s a much higher streaming bitrate than HBO Now was.
Not interested. I am looking for new programming, not something I never bothered to watch when it was available free.
If they add original programming - and a lot of it - there’s a slight chance I’ll reconsider, but since I don’t have time to watch the things I’ve bookmarked on Netflix, I don’t see the need to add another service, and after the disappointments of Star Trek Picard and Star Trek Discovery, I’m wary of even if that
My main streaming device, lo these last few years, has been my Roku - and I’ve been quite happy with it. I have a bunch of free apps (YouTube, Movie Channels, News) plus my subscriptions. Then Xfinity, my internet provider, offered me a Roku-like device that would come loaded with Peacock for free in perpetuity. So, don’t look a gift horse in the mouth I say. I had an extra HDMI slot to work with, so I took it. My review … meh.
The only advantage to my Roku is that there a few more free movies … but not anything new. I binged on a few Hope/Crosby Road To… movies and I recently watched Duck Soup over there. There were a few other 70’s/80’s pseudo-classics that I can’t recall, but essentially, everything else on this device is a cut rate version of the what’s on my Roku. PlutoTV - my main free go to - has fewer channels and no ability to favorite channels. There is no Spotify on this new device, and I subscribe so that’s a no go right there.
So, there’s nothing new with Peacock that you can’t get anywhere else. I suppose if you’re really into old NBC programming that might be a benefit too, but I didn’t even look into that - couldn’t give a shit.
Peacock doesn’t have the classic seasons of SNL, and if you want to watch the old Law and Order episodes, you have to upgrade to Premium. When I tried to watch Today, it said my video configuration isn’t compatible with Peacock. It’s also not available on Roku or Amazon.
It has the last eight L&O seasons and all ten L&O CI. It has a bunch of classic and newer comedies, some Hitchcock films, a nice collection of classic and newer horror, new news and sports. For $29.99 for the first year for premium I think its an excellent buy.
I am pretty sure that they will be rotating seasons of long series like L&O and SNL. CBS All Access doesnt have the full catalogue of 60 minutes which I would subscribe just for that.
