Peanut butter: Skippy vs. Jif - which is best?

Does candy taste like sadness? I can’t believe people eat so much processed food with corn syrup in it. To me peanut butter is ground up peanuts, salt is optional. I don’t think I have eaten sweetened peanut butter since I was in grade school.

I don’t know if I could taste the difference - then again, my mom always bought generics. I buy the kind that’s just peanuts and a little salt - no sugar or any other additives. And I like chunky better than smooth.

I don’t eat much straight-up peanut butter, and the all-natural kinds that don’t add sugar are definitely superior. But between Jif and Skippy, I think Skippy tastes a little less sweet and therefore better.

Peanut butter is a wonderful baking ingredient. I never met a PB cookie I didn’t like. And I have a PB coffee cake recipe that is to die for.

Also, like Siam Sam said - creamy rules. I’ve never understood the appeal of crunchy PB - the peanut bits are just the right size to get stuck in your molars.

Peter Pan extra crunchy, or else I’ll have the egg salad, thanks.

Actually, I do also like the straight peanut, fresh roasted, grind it yourself stuff at the health food store. But it’s just a pain to have to stop there and listen to the spiel for the latest weed that save the world.

And Skippy is a bush kangaroo.

I don’t even know what brand my (British) peanut butter is, it’s probably store label.

Amazing how there exists a popcorn thread which I have, somehow, yet to go in and tell all those participating that they’re enjoying popcorn wrong.

Yeah, when I want peanut butter on a sandwich, I want good old fashioned American mass market peanut butter, which tastes like a cross between real peanut butter and Crisco vegetable shortening. And none of this crunchy or otherwise textured shit. I want peanut lard.

As for the poll, I have absolutely no idea. I have no brand loyalty when it comes to peanut butter. Let me see what we have in the cupboard right now, because I haven’t a clue. sneaks off to kitchen Huh. Looks like we have an actual name brand. It’s Skippy creamy. I would have bet it was some Aldi brand or something.

Hey, sorta like popcorn, gives me something to play with, and who doesn’t like a snack later in the day?

 (with peanuts stuck in molars)

I like Skippy because it’s less sweet. Also, he was a good kangaroo. P.S., I was 50 years old when I learned that he wasn’t a good kangaroo at all, he was a bush kangaroo.

I don’t care, I do like ‘natural’ and/or crunchy. Here, Mr. Salinqmind seems fixated on Jif as it’s not as thin and drippy as Skippy.

It can be a great cooking ingredient too. Mix in a little oil, vinegar, and soy sauce. Add some chopped garlic, ginger, peppers, and scallions. Serve it on some chicken and noodles.

The urge to feel superior is so strong that 30% of the posts are devoted to something that has a 7% market share

I bought some Adams PB once and it was okay. The thing that made it better was when I added salt and sugar (stevia actually, I was trying to recreate good PB for someone on a low sugar diet, it turned out good)

I like them both, and have both in the cupboard at the moment. I’m tending more to Jif, so that’s how I voted. Creamy only, as the stuff with peanut chunks gives me grief.

QFT.

What you’ve described is more or less an Indonesian peanut sauce (especially if you use tamarind or lemon in place of the vinegar and skip the scallions). Although I have yet to meet an Indonesian who doesn’t practically faint with horror at the idea of starting with peanut butter rather than fresh peanuts that they roast and grind themselves (or rather, their maids or favorite restaurant do the grinding). And yes, it is indeed tastier and more authentic-tasting if you start with fresh peanuts. But off-the-shelf PB is a perfectly fine substitute for an ordinary meal.

I grew up with Extra Crunchy Jif, so that’s what I voted for. I tend to use natural peanut butter nowadays though, and it’s always creamy. I’m not picky regarding brands, I like all peanut butters.

When I last tried Skippy, I learned what brand my elementary school cafeteria used for sandwiches.

My mom was choosier, evidently.

Peter Pan.

I prefer Skippy. JIF is too sweet.

Not to reignite rap feuds, but Tupac is better than Biggie, it’s called Carl’s Jr. and Skippy is the westside option, even if it’s now apparently owned by a Minnesota company and made in Arkansas and China. Skippy Chunk. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Peter Pan in the store.
