Peanut skins: a poll

When you get peanuts in the shell, do you eat the papery red “skin” around the nut? Or do you toss that with the shells?

Toss it. Why would you eat it? That’d be like eating the whitish stuff under the orange peel. yuck face

I like to eat the shells and give the peanuts away.

I eat it. The shell slows me down enough. I don’t need any other impediments.

About half of each. Also, if the skins seem to be carrying a good amount of salt, that will encourage me to eat them. (That IS the whole point of eating peanuts, after all…)

I rub the peanuts and if the skin comes away easily I toss it; else I eat it.

Sometimes I eat it, but usually I’ll remove it. But if the peanuts don’t taste salty enough without the skin, I’ll leave it.

Eat it, why not?

Definitely eat the skins! They’re an important source of dietary fiber, vitamins A-Z, riboflavins, oxymorons…

Actually I have no idea if they have any nutritional value at all. I eat 'em because they have salt clinging to them and it’s too much hassle to peel 'em off.

Besides, they look so attractive if one happens to cling to one of your front teeth.

I’m just posting to say that one of the advantages of being allergic to nuts is not having to cope with this dilema.

Yes, I eat the peanut skins. Why not? I also eat the white stuff on oranges.

Sometimes I take the time to take the shells off. Sometimes I don’t.

Oh wait, are you talking about those little red skin thingies? Are you serious?

You’re allergic to nuts and you’ve survived this long around this place?!

(Okay, okay…feeble, obvious, but no one else was going for it.)

If the red skin doesn’t fall off, I eat it. No biggie.

I tend to eat the papery stuff. Trying to remove it usually results in the actual nut flying several yards and landing on the floor.

Personally, I love to get those Planters Redskin peanuts and pick out only the ones that have the full skin on them. I love 'em. The naked ones I have no interest in. Maybe it’s got something to do with the fact that they leave nothing to the imagination. Hee Hee.

Of course you eat the skins! Hell, in my family we’ve got a great cookie recipe that calls for spanish peanuts - the ones with the skins on (I wonder if they’re calling them “redskins” peanuts now - we’ve been having trouble finding them). The skins give great flavor, and the salt and sweet together is just the best.

eat the skin? hell I put the whole thing in my mouth, suck the hell out of it to get every last crystal of salt, then I take it back out, crack the shell, and eat the peanut, skin and all.

I eat peanuts shells and all. Always have.

I collect the loose ones and make it into a tea.
