At this stage it seems that it will retail for a great deal less than a standard condom.

I can’t see that actually happening unless the manufacturer isn’t interested in turning a profit and possibly losing money. This device is more complicated and seems much more difficult to produce than a simple latex condom.

I can’t imagine having the strength to beat anyone with multiple rows of teeth stuck into my erect penis. I can’t imagine myself doing anything more than sitting down for a minute or two with one of those things stuck in myself, and I have a very high tolerance to physical pain. I don’t know if this invention will stop any rapes but any real deterrent to victimization is a good thing in my book.

Oh, good. Yet another way for a woman to get a man’s bodily fluids inside her vagina, only this time it’d be blood. And this is allegedly from a company in South Africa.

One can only hope that if it’s real it doesn’t lead to an increased rate of AIDS transmission. In theory, the woman would have been raped anyway, so she would be at some non-zero risk, but if blood communicates the virus more effectively… well, I’m no virologist, but it seems twice as unsanitary as before.

Not to keep knocking on the backdoor (there are no many potential jokes), but unprotected anal sex poses more risk than unprotected vaginal sex in the first place, so how would this even begin to address the issue? Hoax, publicity stunt. perfomance art, what’s your guess?

From looking at the photos in the supplied link it appears to be a complete female condom with internal barbs, so it looks like it would contain the rapist’s blood & other fluids.

You beat me to it, damn you clair. If a rapist is aware of this, and if it is a real device and not a brilliant hoax, then they’d likely first penetrate their victim with something else to have the barbs hook in, and draw out that something else. --shudder-- What a thing to write.

If this were the case, and if the rapist were still in physical control of the situation, and had removed this device prior to using their body to rape the victim, I have to wonder if there might be increased battery upon the victim as a result of rage over the potential injury they just avoided.

What a world.
