I’ve been following the thread about ‘punk’ and decided to download a couple of the bands that I hadn’t heard…holy asteroidss!!! Pennywise kicks ass…The singer can carry a note, and the rest can actually play instruments. I’m kinda old, I remember the Sex Pistols fondly(If they can be remembered that way)…but it could never be said that they had “talent”. Pennywise does! Man O’ Man…I know I’m getting old, it took me this long to find this band. I may have a new favorite. It seems that part of their ‘schtick’ is to re-do some classic rock tunes…but they do them pretty g’damn well. Can you guys give me some reccomendations on music of theirs(or bands that sound like they do)?

I read the thread title and a picture of a garish clown smiling up at me from a sewer grating made my flesh prickle.

Oh, um, the band. I heard they kick ass. I should listen to them.

I would recomend any cd up to Full circle which IMHO is their last good album. My favorites in order are:

  1. Unknown Road
  2. About Time
  3. Pennywise
  4. FullCircle
  5. A word from the wise <–A very different sounding album. I believe there was a different singer. You can barely tell it’s them but it is a fun cd.

A great many people think that Pennywise stole, copied, or borrowed their sound from Bad Religion. Try these Bad Religion albums if you like Pennywise:

Suffer
No Control
Against the Grain
Generator

I’d recommend getting “No Control” or anything off of it for starters. Here’s the tracks off of it, if you’re just going to be using a p2p program. The songs work really well as a cohesive album, so it’s hard to pick songs out as “the best” here. “I Want to Conquer the World” is very catchy, and would have been the single in a parallel universe, if you get my drift.

while I agree the the lastes release “land of the free?” was repetetive crap, “Straight ahead” was an out and out classic from start to end. straight ahead along with about time are definitely their best albums.

BTW, how old are you angband? I love to see new people “discovering” the joys of punk rock. if you were that impressed with PW you should definitely go out this minute and buy the album “suburban teenage wasteland blues” by Strung Out. its cut from a similar vein except infinitely more talented. you gotta trust me on this one dude. go…now and may god have mercy on your soul.
