I wonder how many people signed it and fully meant it. There are obviously a lot of stupid people who would honestly like their state to secede and don’t realize how that’s a terrible idea, along with being treasonous. Maybe I’m overly optimistic, but I’m guessing a significant number of people signed the petitions because they are upset about the election and venting, but if truly pressed on the issue, would concede that seceding is a terrible idea. Those petitions are a pointless thing to sign, since secession is not ever gonna happen, so it’s also pointless thing to get upset about.
List is now up to 36 states…
Not all are “red” states…quite a few are on a coast WITH a seaport…and several are agricultural states.
In regards to TX, while secession isn’t being endorsed BY the Governor, the petition did garner enough to get an official response from the WH.

The US needs Texas a lot more than most people think.
I think most of us honestly get that. I think a lot of Texans don’t get that they need to be part of the United States more than the United States needs them.
The fact that Texas contains as many as twenty-five thousand whiny sore-loser right-wing whackadoodles comes as a massive surprise to exactly nobody.
The fact that Governor Rick Perry’s manifestation of vestigial sanity in refusing to endorse this ridiculous whackadoodlery has now pissed off at least a few of his nutty former supporters is kind of nice, though.
There are over 45 states fed up with the Feds. In 2 days Texas, Louisiana and Florida did garner enough to get an official response from the WH. Looks like Illinois and Hawaii will be left holding the Obamanation.
Really weird how that referendum last Tuesday turned out then, isn’t it?
More precisely, there are over 45 states containing numerous whiny sore-loser right-wing whackadoodles who are butthurt enough over the recent election to make themselves look like fools by signing huffy little anti-US petitions that will accomplish nothing whatsoever.

Let me get this straight. Are you telling us that you really believe that these silly little sore-loser petitions will actually accomplish anything politically? Do you think that they will actually result in genuine political secession with the seceding states establishing independent governments?
While it is a terrible idea, if asked for by petition I doubt that it could be considered treasonous.
More problematic will be the governors who are refusing to comply with Obamacare.
I wonder if they are trying to make a point or call attention to their opinions, or are merely venting frustration.
I guess they lose Federal funding for their state.
Signed!
I’m number 9,452!
You guys are going to deport US citizens?
How did you set this up?
I’d like to start a petition to stop guys who signed your petition from posting on message boards.
No one is going to do anything.
It’s more or less a counter-petition to the stupid secession petitions. I found it this morning through a Fark link and posted it here. I’ve signature #1198 out of 9,483 at this time. Deadline for these things is 30 days to collect 25,000 signatures, and this one has collected over 8,000 in 10 hours just today.
Humor…it is a difficult concept for some.
Nope Im just saying. Almost every state has a petition. Thats a lot of angry Americans or Illegals. It’s an ugly picture. Last time States wanted out South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas… well you know what happened. They got out. That wasn’t left and right it was North and South. But don’t worry history never repeats its self.
You realize that getting an “official response” does not mean anyone is seceding, right?
A couple thousand people anonymously signed a petition on the internet?
We don’t need to worry. It seems that the signers can’t master basic punctuation, so I doubt they can mount a serious offensive against anybody but their cats.
