Exactly. My last job I had for five years and it was over a period of time that my supervisor was allowing more and more flexibility, as I proved that I was worth the hassle. But, that company got bought and most of the work sent out of state, and no employer is going to want to give me that sort of flexibility right off the bat.

No, it is “it’s not welfare if I am taking back the money I put in (was forced to put into) the program”, and it is “children are taking a good chunk of my money, money I can no longer afford to have taken”, and it is “playgrounds shouldn’t be funded by the taxpayer”.

And the children’s parents put in for their kids. They have as much right to the money as your husband has the right to benefit from the welfare check you might receive, should you become totally disabled.

I wouldn’t have a problem with providing a basic shelter, food, and running water package for those who aren’t able or willing to support themselves. We are civilised, after all. We can, as I have said before, provide a decent life for the kids without giving the parents a free ride for 18 years. Welfare in any form should not be seen as a right, but as the privilige of living in a caring society. Priviliges can be revoked at any time.

In what way? I’m of the opinion that nobody is entitled to anything, but that we should keep people from starving. To say that those priveliges couldl be revoked isn’t contradictory. Suppose they failed a drug test or committed some crime? Should we support thieves and drug addicts?

And none of that matters because we will still care for them whether they’re criminals or junkies or down-on-their-luck parents. Our society believes that basic care is an entitlement. I think so too.

Really? Those who are not willing? Apparently you have some angst with your brother and how he is surviving–he is not willing to work his ass off to support his family. He and his baby momma suck at the teat of the government, by your own account. How does this jibe with your idea that you would have no problem with support those who are unwilling?

Shelter and food ought to be provided so that we don’t have citizens starving out in the streets. You know, lowers the quality of our streets and whatnot. Shelter and food are far less than what people get right now for sitting on their asses.

My brother gets a lot more than food and shelter–a free college education, free medical care, and the knowledge that he doesn’t have to work because taxpayer money will take care of his kid, for example. Those of us who are responsible get jack shit, but the lazy assholes of society get everything handed to them for free. Give me one good reason to not be pissed.
