I don’t view them as more important than other people. Like that pit thread about people thinking that any random child must be more important to me that my dogs. Why should they be? I don’t know that child, I don’t know it’s parents, I have zero emotional attachment to it yet you all expect that I will sacrific my dogs lives to save it. Those dogs are as important to me as a parent’s children are to them - why are my feelings less important?

Since I am disabled, the chances are that I won’t have as long a life span as the average person. Which of course sidesteps the issue that even if I make it to an average lifespan I may still not get back all of the money I paid in, particularly if you consider lost interest. And meanwhile, I’ll still be paying taxes back to society. OTOH, children take and don’t pay taxes.

What makes you think you suck up fewer resources? As for the playgrounds, here they are not all part of parks. As for parks, here single adults without children are frequently told to move along if they are “too close” to children - not that the parks are all that useable given the number of children using them and their parents sitting on the picnic table benches “watching” them. Since we have so many families living in apartments we tend to have them using the parks as their backyards. However, I do appreciate the parks if for no other reason than it means fewer houses.

Public schools are not useless. We do need more workers in the future, it’s not a delusion.

You may be lucky in that your public schools are not useless, but that is not where my property taxes are going. As I have said umpteen times before, due to “no child left behind” our public schools are all teaching on the level of whatever child in each class knows the least English. The “product” our public schools are currently cranking out is pathetic.

As for needing more workers in the future, if we don’t have enough jobs now for the ones we have, is it not delusional to insist we need more?

Do you have even the slightest clue how SS is organized? Us workers who were children a couple of decades ago, are now paying for the SS you take out of the system, just as you paid the SS my Grandparents took out from.

So? Do you think that if the population doesn’t continue to grow, tax money will disappear? I do realize that old people are less important and that SS will probably be one of the first things to go, which is why I’d like to start getting mine back now and why I am not betting my life on whether it will be there to support us until we die. The more you all keep cranking out those kids and insisting they are more important than adults, the more likely it is that I will never see all of my SS money again.

And that, in a nutshell, is the root of the problem; not just with Crazy Dog Lady, but with Obnoxious 23-Year-Old Doofus, and Bitchy Failed Economics/Civics Professor.

All of three of them (and a few others who haven’t posted in sufficent quantity to keep attracting attention) see children not as people—not as adults in training— but as some sort of expensive, care intensive exotic pet.

I hold out some small hope for Starwarsfreek42; she’s just a kid herself, and, as I recall, at 23 I can remember not being too interested in children myself. I didn’t “hate them with a fiery, burning passion that consumes my soul” as she claims to, but they made me a little uncomfortable and I had no interest in having any. I grew up, and I have some hope that someday she’ll undergo the same sort of metamorphosis into a real person.

As for the other two…ehhhh. You can only pound your head against a brick wall for so long before you realize, “OW! That hurts! Maybe I should stop doing it…” These two damaged souls have no hope of ever being fixed (assuming someone could obtain the parts from the 7th Circle of Hell).

In 15 years my beautiful, brilliant, bright-blue-eyed boy will be a grown man. If his mom and I have done our job properly, he’ll be a caring, compassionate soul with a social and spiritual connection to his fellow human beings. He’ll have a strong work ethic and impeccable manners. He’ll do amazing things in his all-too-short life, and I smile in thinking that I’ll be remembered as the father of this wonderful person. I don’t care if history remembers me; my boy will, and his children will, and their children…there will be a chain of love and of family that stretches beyond my life as surely as it stretched beyond the life of my dad, and his dad, and his dad and some old Irishman who died 500 years ago.

In those same 15 years, curlcoat and the other hate-filled old cow will quite possibly slip away into the infinate. No one will mourn them and no one will remember them. Once that brackish gene pool has been drained, it’ll be filled in and covered up. And that’s a good goddamn thing.

And people wonder why it is that there are folks that simply cannot stand to be near some parents and their children. Simply because I haven’t reproduced, no one will mourn my passage, eh? And apparently, since I haven’t reproduced, I managed to bypass the giant ego trip that is fifth paragraph of this thing. Well, that’s a good thing…

Can I have a cite for this? Please link to one, don’t recite it from memory. This does not jibe with my understanding of NCLB in the slightest. In fact, it runs counter to it, because NCLB mandates students pass standardized tests, which means they would try to drag the non-English speaking students up to proficiency level by any means necessary. Usually, this is done via ESOL classes, which means that kids who do not pass the proficiency test are not even in classes with fluent English-speaking kids. However, I do not teach in a school with an ESOL program, so if you could kindly enlighten me as to your reasons for believing that your local public schools are “all teaching on the level of whatever child in each class knows the least English,” I’d be much obliged, as that is utterly counterintuitive IME. Fight my ignorance.

This whole board is 90% a time waster for me. It’s definitely not adding to my daily productivity. Occasionally it edifies me, often it’s just an idle way to pass the time while watching TV or waiting for dinner to cook, or while drinking the morning coffee.

Yes, I find this thread genuinely amusing. I don’t think dawn is going to break over curlcoat and she’s going to realize how awful she is, or how far her position deviates from facts or reality. But it’s amazing and interesting to watch her go go go, and the reactions of her audience are also interesting. She got me going a few times there, I admit. It’s sort of fascinating. Don’t you think?

I’ve tried to walk away from this thread several times, hoping it would die. It hasn’t. curlcoat will never stop posting as long as someone replies to her, never. She has nothing better to do. She’s like a dog with a bone (she reflects her peer group). So, it ain’t gonna go away, and occasionally, her arrant nonsense causes me to throw a bit of fact into the mix, just to see what happens. Once again, you’re going to have to give me a cite for 23 year olds being kids. I’m mature enough to function well in society, and I’ve never met anyone in real life who has such hatred for people who hate kids. Granted, most of the time when I say that people don’t believe me. But I’m not just going to wake up one day and realize I’ve been living a lie all these years.

In theory, yes. In practice, one of three freaks (curlcoat & Co, I think it was starwarsfreek42) said that she has a one year old niece which she never saw because she does not allow children in her house.

I guess the niece will not mourn her.

That would be me. Don’t allow kids in my house, and not interested in going out to visit them. The niece won’t mourn me because she’ll never meet me unless it’s at some family function when she’s thirty and I’m old, but the thing is… who cares? I’ll be dead, so I surely won’t be worried about it.
