Père the Rhymer has decided to vote for McCain

Awwww…I wanted a flying car! You bastards!

Quit bitching, you HAD a flying car until the we took the trip back in time next Monday, and you, specifically, were also a multi-trillionaire. We’d never have gone back to change history if you you hadn’t pissed me off by…um, I don’t remember what it was. Something about chicken sandwiches. Anyway, I was right and you were wrong.

What change from McCain’s previous record are you referring to?

This point came up in another thread yesterday, so I’ll re-post what I said there:

McCain has always been consistent on this point: he’s opposed to abortion. It’s not a sudden change.

For some reason, his position on abortion comes as a surprise to some people, who are sometimes puzzled when they hear his position and think that he’s pandering to the social conservatives on it. But he’s always taken this position. If he were to take a different position now, that would be a major flip-flop.

See his website:

Human Dignity and the Sanctity of Life

And this article from the NPR: Misperceptions About McCain’s Abortion Stance:

And this TIME article: McCain and Obama on Abortion

I know she’s got a point, but she feels we should have overlooked the crime and just gone with the flow. Plus, it’s her excuse not to vote.

Also…I like your version of history. Where do I sign up?

Once I have fucked up the timeline, I leave it fucked. It’s a matter of principle.

 Thanks for the hate. Keep it coming.

Don’t flatter yourself. I’ve voted Republican most of my life, and I respect several conservative Dopers on this board, such as Bricker.

I don’t hate you. I hold you in contempt as a incredibly obvious and untalented troll whom Gandalf would not trouble to trick into petrification because your awesome stupidity makes you as dangerous as a defanged, declawed Siamese cat.

Do the single issue voters think abortion will go away? It was illegal before and it was just driven underground where it became expensive and dangerous. Legislating morality does not work. Drugs are illegal and you can buy them on almost any street corner.Prohibition worked real well too. If yo do not believe in abortion, do not have one.

Thanks. You got any more or is that all for now?

At least some of the people I know that are conservative, but are not single issue voters, do seem to think that if Roe v. Wade was overturned abortion would disappear. I don’t know why they think this, they are familiar with history and are not stupid. It is apparently just a blind spot in their thinking and even pointing it out doesn’t change their minds.

Without people like this there would be no invasion. The real question is how much collateral damage is acceptable to bring these people the justice they deserve? 1 for 1? 10, 100, 1000?

I’m torn. I quite enjoy mocking you, but I hate to feed your martyr complex.

I’m kinda frustrated in the same way Skald is for the same reason–except for demographics, my dad and his dad would probably have a lot in common.

One good thing about this thread is all the links and resources on the pro-life types who’re supporting Obama anyway–I’m mailing a lot of them to my parents.

Granted, it’s less to convince them to vote for Obama, and more to just get them to think a little more and maybe, just maybe, get them to not be single-issue voters. I don’t mind intelligent conservatives–I generally am one, but between being a social liberal and being the kind of fiscal conservative who remembers the budget/economy in the Clinton years and the budget/economy now, I’m most likely going to vote for Obama until the Pubs prove they can restrain themselves. I do mind people who vote for either side without thinking or based on one issue that overrides all their other beliefs.
