Permethrin for ticks?

Y’all helped me last year when Frontline was no longer working on my dog. Apparently the fleas (and roaches too, according to the bug man) in the southeast have adapted to pyrethrins so they are no effective. We switched to Advantage, but I am wondering about whether we should get the Advantix which also has permethrin for ticks and mosquitos. I haven’t had any luck Googling whether it is still effective against them. Anyone know? Thanks!

I like the Advantix better than straight Advantage on my dogs.

It is NOT for cats though.

(I know you didn’t mention cats, but these threads have long legs and I’ve heard too many sad ‘oops’ stories recently)

We use Advantix and are pretty happy with it when applied every three weeks (at veterinarian’s suggestion). Very toxic to cats, however. Even contact between a recently treated dog and a cat should be avoided.

If you just have a problem with ticks, not fleas, these preventic collarswork really well. We’re in New England, in the woods, and it’s the only thing I’ve tried that really keeps the ticks off the dogs.
