…Person of Interest is the science fiction show that has done its best to pretend it was a police procedural for the last five years.
There are only 3 episodes to go Team Machine lost two members in the last episode: Elias and Root. But the machine gained its voice, and for the second time Amy Acker’s character has been upgraded to “god mode” in season five of a series.
Any predictions? I think we will loose Reece before its all over, Finch will run away with Grace, and Shaw, Bear and the Machine will take over looking after the city. (And you better leave my man Fusco alone!) Anyone else following along?
I think it will be Finch we’ll lose. It looks like he’s dropping the reins big time. I think Fusco, Reece, and Shaw are now tracking him - his number came up because he’s the perp. I think the machine will finally be let loose to accomplish some butt-kicking of Samaritan and some greater good.
ETA - the show is finally back on track this season. I’m sorry to see it go. Last season was a bit of a meandering mess, sorry to say.
Good God, that last episode was amazing. Finch’s monologue at the end…
Anyway, I think it’s going to end with Reese and Finch dead, Shaw and Fusco alive and the Machine transcended into something even greater, perhaps the true Singularity.
Yes, that last episode was great. I think the Machine will find a way not to defeat Samaritan, but to merge with it and create something new. It’s been a hell of a ride.
This has been my favourite show for the past couple years (I had to catch up after discovering it in Season 3), and now I am so excited to see what these last three episodes brings.
It kinda seems like the theme of the whole show is against unchecked technology, so it doesn’t really seem like the Machine being an open system is going to end up being a good thing, but I am with the show til the end!
Glad to see some discussion of this. The show is so damned far fetched, not just Samaritan and “The Machine” but how they have gun battles in the middle of NYC on a constant basis and the streets are deserted, almost every time no police come until the action is over. But I still like the characters and it’s different.
That’s explained in Episode 5. Shotseeker is a computer system and therefore hackable. The cops are told by one of the ASIs that their gun battles are fireworks or car backfires, so they stay away.
Other calls to police are routed through a computerized 911 dispatch, which is again hackable.
Well I guess Samaritan and The Machine are going down. But it’s probably not that simple. The team had a much easier time in Ft. Meade than they should have. I love how one member of the team continuously goes solo, gets in trouble, and the other members of the team finds them at the last second and saves them.
I enjoyed this show throughout. It was great that it was established at least one more group of people were formed to take care of the numbers. I wonder if Shaw’s going to be a part of that, or if she’ll be the core of a new group.
Glad Shaw made it, I’ve liked her since she was on Life. Same basic character too, I like to think that Life shows what she would be like if she hadn’t joined the top-secret assassin’s organization. I guess we don’t know for sure what happened to Harold and I’m fine with that. I think the final episode was sorta overly-dramatic and had a convoluted plot, but it wasn’t bad for a finale.
Anybody know what that tune was they kept playing in the Harold rooftop scenes? It reminds me of Nine Inch Nails, but I can’t quite place it.
Looks like the door is very slightly ajar for a spinoff. How does Finch find Grace at the end? Did he always know where to find her? The show has given us a great ride, my favorite of this genre since Early Edition.
I’m pretty sure there was a line in one of the last episodes where he knew she was in Italy(?).
At any rate, I’m certain the Machine knew where she was, and was probably shielding her from Samaritan, just like it did with Reese, Finch, Root, and Shaw.
Hopefully no spinoff - they did this ending pretty well, we know that our Machine beat Samaritan and is back at work - I just don’t think there are a lot of new stories to do in that area. Hopefully they let it RIP.
