Pet lobsters

Okay, Hephaestus42

HEEEE!

That was hilarious. I’m sending that to everyone I know.

Thanks!

(Lobster sticks to magnet, indeed…)

(Actually, that was Rik Mayal)

[Adrian Edmonson]Okay, I’ll call it Cliff Richard! Hello, Cliff Richard![/Adrian Edmonson]

If you think lobsters are cool or cute, you may enjoy this story from the BBC.

That story rocks! That is so cool! I didn’t know lobsters could live as long as 60 years. And I’m glad that they’re going to let him go home instaed of into the stewpot.

Excellent. He is really cute, but if I were going to keep him as a pet, I might see if we could do something about all of those crusty ole barnacles all over his exoskeleton. Although it does give Barney a sort of nautical, devil-may-care sort of look, doesn’t it?

Ah, but it’s good that he can go home. I bet his wife and kids and grandkids had given up on him.

Wow, what if he shows up right in the middle of his own funeral?

That’ll surely cause a crustacean sensation!

And he walked him through the gardens of the Palais-Royal with a sky-blue satin ribbon for a leash! “Because he didn’t bark and knew the secrets of the sea.” (The lobster, not de Nerval.) I have always thought this behavior eminently worthy of imitation, especially if a drill team could be organized. I imagine it was a rather slow promenade, as lobsters have short legs. What’s the top land speed of a lobster, anyways?

For those Dopers who aren’t up on nineteenth century French symbolist poets, de Nerval was instituationalized shortly thereafter.

You’ve freaked my out there, Creaky, with an image of the old guy’s family singing “Under the Sea” from The Little Mermaid in a minor key.

Wonder what they’d put in the canapés?

My Bro-in-law is an aquarium enthusiast (there’s a word for that, but I can’t think of it right now…)

He lives in Maine with my sis, and a gaggle of kids…

Last time I was there, he had a tank with a lobster in it… they had had the lobster for a while, but I don’t know how long…

So it is possible, but I don’t know for how long… FTR the lobster my bro-in-law had was pretty small. Maybe 7 or 8 inches long…

Oh my gosh! I am dying of cuteness now! And just envisioning a whole brigade of Royal Lobsters doing Daily Parade Drill has undone me for the rest of the day.
