PETA eats their young. Or your young, whichever's handy...

Shat. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse. First they wanna terrorize my children, and now a transsexual wants to strip for them…

I just commissioned 30 mink coats and beat a couple squirrels on my porch.

I’ve had vegetarian friends and I’m slowly-but-surely moving toward a vegetarian diet myself, but shit like this really pisses me off. Vegetarians are often unfairly demonized and seen as a bunch of intolerant, holier-than-thou Nazis and it’s stunts like this that create those kinds of impressions. I’ve now lost what few scraps of respect I had for PETA.

This has been said before on the SDMB and in this thread, but it bears repeating: Please don’t judge all followers of a particular way of thinking by the actions of a very vocal minority. Most vegetarians are converts and ate plenty of meat (and wore plenty of leather and/or fur) before becoming vegetarians and realize that judging others who eat meat or wear leather or fur is hypocritical. For proof of what I’m saying, read the thread about this very issue that was started on a vegan message board where I’m a member.

People Executing Terrorist Acts

Yep, that’s what happens when a transsexual acts like a total asshat, **other people start acting like total asshats. It’s contagious, I guess.

Good One…

Your moniker is making me hungry, too.

I wish this would have happened when I went to ‘The Nutcracker’ last year. That was some boring shit.

I’m not a vegetarian. My wife is. We were both raised in lower income households by meat eating folk. However, my parents said, “Chuck,” they said, “Chuck, eat what you will. Take at least a bite of the meat on your plate, and all the veggies, and then you can leave the table.” My wife was raised pretty much in the same manner. I’m guessing most people have had similar experience. However, how would you feel now, about eating animals, if you were raised vegan or vegetarian? If you were raised to think, “Gee, cows are cute and as bright as many people I’ve known. Why would I eat one? Do their babies not cry when momma disappears,” wouldn’t you be completely astounded that people would do terrible deeds to your friends and neighbors (non-human animals). A zealous vegetarian believes that eating meat is eating meat. If it’s cow or human being, it’s the same thing. So, next time you eat chicken fingers think of them as coming from a tortured human being. Then ask yourself again if what PETA does is wrong. Yes, their methods are extreme. But they believe people murder without regret and they want that put to a halt at all costs.

Sadnil welcome to the Boards

Now then whats this asinine comment about chickens being tortured humans? I have raised a lot of different kinds of animals and while a few of them have been smarter than some humans I know they were clearly NOT HUMAN! No matter how much I anthropomorphize my animals they are still not humans. Doesn’t mean I love them less and I think they should be treated cruelly it just means I can tell the difference between a human and a critter. Chickens are not cute little birds who knit and build airplanes so they can lovingly raise their young in safety. They are agressive, dirty birds who will either peck you or shit on you… or both. And they will kill their young, I guess that makes them almost human.

I’m a carnivore, well okay omnivore. That’s why I hate both cutting teeth and grinding teeth. I like meat. I think that puts me far more on par with a wolf hunting his dinner than a chicken scratching in the dirt for bugs.

The real cruel treatment of animals is all the unwanted kittens and pups born everyday that starve to death, become roadkill or are killed in shelters. That’s real cruelty and waste.

I’m not a vegetarian; I did not claw my way to the top of the food chain to eat vegetables, nor do I think my species developed the greatest brains of any known terrestrial life form just to figure out new ways to make tofu taste like something other than tofu.

If you are a vegetarian, I will hold my tongue. Perhaps you are not a PETA freak. Perhaps you simply feel that a vegetarian lifestyle better suits your health needs. Perhaps you have digestive problems that you will tell me more than I want to know about if I ask.

If you are a vegetarian, that’s okay. I will eat my hamburger, and you will eat your salad, and we will both reach for the check, make eye contact, and laugh.

And that’s OKAY. I make no judgments, particularly in the absence of any information about you.

…but if you are a vegetarian due to your beliefs, that’s okay, too.

The part that bugs ME is when you begin to want to lean on ME about your beliefs… either because you wish to benefit me with the power and the glory of your beliefs, or because my actions bother you due to your beliefs.

If you preach at me, I will quietly close the subject, and if you’re smart, or you wish to remain in my presence peacefully, that will put an end to it. I am a tolerant soul. Except when it comes to Jehovah’s Witnesses, but that’s another story.

If my consumption of animal flesh disturbs you, you are welcome to go elsewhere. Whole planet to roam on, and I can’t be everywhere at once.

…but when you resort to terrorism or terrorist acts to impose your beliefs on my life, you are looking for a stomping, bud. And I classify the chicky who slapped the sausage out of someone’s hand in the same class with the people who throw paint on furs.

Screw with me at your own peril.

Screw with my children at risk of your life and limb.

And don’t tell me I’m being unreasonable. YOU came up to ME and performed your attack. You didn’t have to. You could have simply let me pass, and not bothered my kids. Tolerance, after all.

But you chose not to.

Be ready to pay, that’s all I’ve got to say. They might well serve you a vegetarian meal in intensive care, but I think they don’t much care about your beliefs in the city jail. You can eat the chili or starve; it’s all the same to them, there…

Is a redwood and a broccoli plant the same thing?

What if I think my belief is superior to yours (PETA’s). Should I take extreme measures and halt PETA’s belief at all costs?

You have perfectly described what a “cult” is. “Extreme” is the operative word here.

Master W-K hit that one on the screws…

Let me correct myself…

Insert “, inferior, or similar” after the word “superior”…A cult can be based on any type of belief.

And your point is? If everything breaks down one day, and all I’ve got is people to eat; then you’d better run. Fast.

Geez, you guys take meat eating too seriously. First of all, I’d like to make note that I am not a vegetarian, nor am I a member of PETA. I thought I made that clear in my previous post. Apparently, not. Anyway, someone mentioned that they have raised animals and chickens before, but they are not human. Clearly, you are a master of the obvious. I never said that if you have a chicken, or a cow and a human being, and one of them has to have their face cut off, pick the human. I think that humanity survives at all costs and I certainly wouldn’t wish pain on a person before pain on another type of animal. However! Just because chickens aren’t human doesn’t mean they don’t have pain receptors (they do). If you cut of the beak of a chick with a hot knife, you are cruel. I’m guessing that the vast majority of the chicken we eat on a daily basis comes from farmers who cut the beaks off of chickens (while they are alive, no they don’t die, they just live in pain). Also, the majority of beef we eat comes from farmers who rip cows out of trailers by their feet so the cow lands on it’s stomach, breaking it’s legs and pelvis. Then, it’s made to sit there in pain for hours until they get a vet who can come to shoot the cow. No, they don’t put it to sleep or anything like that. That would damage the meat. By the way, I’m a meat-eater, in case you forgot. So don’t get spastic on me.

You sure are fast to spout the PETA rhetoric and “facts” for a ‘non-PETA meat eater’ there sadnil.

Something is not adding up.

I’m nowhere near a vetgetarian. OTOH, I don’t eat veal. I limit my hamburgers. I buy dolphin safe tuna.

Is there a prize?

That would be me.

Guesswork by someone who can’t write a coherent paragraph and contradicts themselves within that said paragraph does NOT cut any points with me.

Come back when you have tangible proof.
Disclaimer: Yes I am aware that there area a lot of nasty things happening in the meat industry. This post is directed solely at sadnil, not at any others who may have such proof.

I’m sorry, but I was a little heated when I said, “I’m guessing that the vast majority of the chicken we eat on a daily basis comes from farmers who cut the beaks off of chickens (while they are alive, no they don’t die, they just live in pain).” My point was that many farmers are cruel and it’s not a good argument against being vegetarian to say that farmers are not. Many are. Also, if I say I’m guessing, that’s okay. I’ve never been asked to write a term paper on this subject and I don’t have anything to prove to anyone. I just give my opinion for fun and if you think that “proof” from some (probably bias) study will convince you to eat or not to eat meat, that is great! I wish I were so open-minded. About forming coherent paragraphs, get a life. If you have nothing better than to point out the minutiae of grammar during a discussion, you’re a dork.

What minutiae?

All I asked for was a coherent paragraph that made sense to read.

ad hominem arguments…yep you’re destined for a brilliant life her at SDMB
ummm you are aware that dork means penis? And contrary to the jeans and boots I am a girly…

Quite frankly, that statement is bullshit. You obviously know nothing about how beef cattle are slaughtered if you think the majority of beef for human consumption is treated that way.
