PETA founders?

Who are the original founders of PETA? I know Ingrid Newkirk is a co-founder, but who else founded PETA? Was Peter Singer a founder?

Watch out. Every time I have mentioned that four letter word, I’ve gotten nothing but vile in responces.

Heh. Yeah, that does tend to happen in the PETA threads, doesn’t it? You have my complete assurance that any person who is a member of this message board at the conclusion of this thread will have given on-topic, non-argumentative, factual answers to this question or not posted to this thread at all.

Note: If there is some controversy as to who co-founded PETA, I’m OK with that. But I’m not gonna put up with “PETA sucks” “PETA is great” stuff here.

Damn! As a n00b and a scientist who advocates the use animals in research, im bummed to have missed out on those “flame wars.” :frowning:

Boy, that didn’t take long.

The other co-founder of PETA was Alex Pacheco.

Was Bruce Friedrich also involved in setting up PETA?

Peter Singer was the author of Animal Liberation, of course, and that book had a tremendous influence on many animal rights activists, including Newkirk.

But I don’t think he had any direct role in founding PETA.

Ingrid Newkirk’s own book tells the story as I think it should be told.

One gets the idea that she had kind of a hard time moving on after Alex Pacheco dumped her.
