The concept for Disney is to 1, make money and 2, maintain their copyright on their classic characters. Over the last several years they have produced new ideas. That doesn’t mean they don’t want to make money off of their other ideas.

Is there an actual cite for this? Did Disney say anything about “seven magical creatures” replacing the Dwarfs and then retracted that? Because all I see are clickbaity articles on tabloid sites.
Every actual official communication from Disney I have seen is consistent with the Dwarfs we see now being the original plan and all the brouhaha over this being manufactured BS, but I could be wrong.
Rolling out a movie with seven dwarfs who look amazingly like the seven dwarfs in the original just screams “this was always the plan”. Not that i follow Disney closely. But i suspect that they always planned to do this, and they never needed actors who actually have dwarfism. And what they did is exactly what Dinklage didn’t want. They have a bunch of ridiculous characters called “dwarfs”.
Right, it’s pretty clear Disney didn’t listen to anyone. Dinklage’s concern wasn’t about using actual dwarfs to portray the Dwarfs; he was commenting on portraying dwarfs as nothing more than one-note ridiculous characters.
So Disney is doing that, and they aren’t even using dwarf actors for it, pissing off the other actors who complained.

Is it? What’s the source of the pic? If it was a “promotional” pic where is Disney’s explanation of the photo, where they say “yep, this is what the magical creatures will look like”?
Where is the evidence that the plan wasn’t always to override the ‘diverse cast’ with CGI?
Listen, when people want to rage about woke gone mad you can’t really stop them. They are always on the hunt for it, and will always find it.
Certainly part of the criticism was over the casting of Zegler. Some of the criticism was because her companions looked like a community theater production of Godspell.
You don’t see how the cultural pervasiveness of the latter is othering for the former?
The idea that Peter Dinklage somehow forced Disney to change this movie is absurd. A supporting actor from a popular show that ended five years ago goes on a podcast, and somehow personally forces the largest media corporation in the world to completely rewrite an upcoming movie? Really? Why is Disney supposed to be so afraid of angering this one particular, non-headlining actor? Was he activating his legion of Dinkolytes to boycott Disney? Was there a particular role that Disney just absolutely needed Peter Dinklage, and only Peter Dinklage, and they were worried that he’d refuse to work for them over this? Maybe he was holding the promise of a distribution deal for The Station Agent 2: Station Harder over their head? What sort of power, exactly, does Dinklage wield that so terrifies the executives of a multi-billion dollar international corporation?

As this thread proves, his comments made headlines. He can’t force Disney to do anything but that doesn’t mean Disney is immune to bad press. Especially on potential hot button issues that could affect their bottom line.
