Heck of a thing, killing Bambi’s mom like that.
Yeah, I always thought the same thing. Maybe one day Disney will make a mash-up of Snow White and Bambi?
There’s already a damned convincing fan theory that the sunken ship Ariel discovers is the same one Elsa’s parents were traveling on to attend Belle’s wedding.
ETA: Rapunzel’s wedding.
Thereby orphaning Tarzan! We are through the looking glass, here, people!
That doesn’t undermine his point, though. Those are traditionally dwarf roles. Removing the human element in favor of CGI is part of what he’s talking about. The end result is still fewer jobs for dwarfs.
Ryan George’s Pitch Meeting videos are always so on point
It looks like guys dodn’t worry about this woke nonsense coming out of Disney anymore. Trump is going to fix it. You can get all the dwarves you want and no more brown actors forced down your throat!
Snow White has broken a grim box office record for Disney in spite of some forward momentum. The live-action remake stars Rachel Zegler in the title role opposite Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. The movie’s premiere has come amid severe Snow White backlash due to controversies including the stars’ opposing views on Israel and Palestine, the property’s depiction of dwarfism, and much more. While it debuted at No. 1 at the domestic box office, it earned a middling $42.2 million that weekend.
Per Variety, as of Sunday morning, Snow White is projected to gross a 3-day total of $14.2 million by the end of its sophomore weekend at the domestic box office. This sees it stumbling down to No. 2 behind A Working Man with a week-on-week drop of 66%, which is the worst week 2 drop of any Disney live-action remake. It has bested the previous record-holder, which was 2019’s Dumbo (-60.4%). It is also worse than notable Disney live-action disappointments including Cruella (-48.8%), Jungle Cruise (-54.8%), and Haunted Mansion (-61.7%).

Not surprised? But to me the big news is that so few seem to be going to the movies to see anything. Adults, kids, no one.
Is it bad product or economic insecurity that a night out at the movies isn’t worth it when you’ve already paid for your streaming services?
I can tell you guys that my daughter, who is definitely in their target audience, has not seen the movie, and it appears she will not be doing so.
Not because of any of the political controversies; because every time we ask he if she wants to, she says she’s too scared of the queen to watch the movie. She is terrified because the queen on the Snow White dark ride at Disneyland is apparently the scariest thing ever.
Or that many of us have enormous screens and decent sound in our home, fed by a variety of streaming services.
Except for a very few movies where an even larger screen is actually a benefit, I’d prefer to watch most movies in the comfort of my home.
Movie theaters have been dying for a while. Remember Nicole Kidman doing ads for how great seeing a movie in the theater was for AMC? Televisions have been rectangular in movie screen ratio for a while now. Movies are no longer projected from reels of film but from a digital file. With wifi and such, it is cheap and easy to set up speakers all around the room. You can pause a movie you watch at home. You can watch it when it is convenient for your schedule. You do not have to deal with sticky floors, strangers talking, strangers using their phones etc.
When I was a little kid, she was.
They nearly died during Covid. They had been recovering. 2025 is so far remarkably bad.
The 2025 box office is off to a terrible start. Is the problem supply or demand?.
As of Sunday, movies have generated $1.34 billion in the U.S. and Canada this year, down 7% from the same period in 2024, according to Comscore. March has been particularly weak. The month is expected to end down 50% year over year. Remember, last year‘s first quarter was down significantly from pre-COVID-19 levels, so business is bad. Really bad.
Excellent home systems have been around a while now. Hard to blame this year on that.
The interviewee in that article thinks it’s supply side. Poorer quality and fewer number especially in the mid budget category. Along with marketing and distribution whiffs.
I’m not convinced. I think it is the economic anxiety with demand side decreasing.
FWIW, I find that very attractive
Oh yeah. That is why they renamed it Snow White’s SCARY adventures. However, apparently the recent re-do made it somewhat less scary.
If you read the UN-authorized Guide to Disneyland - which I highly recommend, they give a warning about that attraction.
I like seeing a movie in the theatre, especially if there’s a decent sized audience. I’ll even shell out for a popcorn and beverage for a good Moviefilm. Last one I saw in the theatre was Deadpool and Wolverine, so that was last summer I think. Good fun at the theatre. Missing something watching at home.
We used to see a lot of films- as indeed I love good real buttered popcorns. Sadly, my local theatre usings some gawdawful yellow grease crap you dispense yourself.
We might go see the live actions Stitch film, however.
