Peter Max died at age 88. Psychedelic Artist

A fixture of the 60s and 70s.
The inspiration for the look of the Yellow Submarine movie.

I know what you mean, but people would dispute the statement. Max wasn’t directly involved with the film. The artistic design was the work of German artist Heinz Edelmann, who was a fan of Max’s style and apparently called himself “The German Peter Max”.

Max’s own work showed up in lots of weird places – designs for clock faces, an animated TV commercial for 7-Up, the cover for the January 20000 issue of Playboy… There’s plenty of genuine Peter Max art out there.

I read that news yesterday and had one of those “I thought he was already dead” moments.

I didn’t know he was still alive. My character’s name in Cut Up (1994) was intentionally called ‘Peter Max’. (There was also a character called ‘Azure Canine’. The film took place in New Orleans.)

You have to give the editors credit for their long term planning.

Just saw his obit pic. I thought it was John Waters at first.
