Petkeeping with Marc Morrone

I can’t help myself. I am hypnotized by this show. I instantly believe everything he has to say when it comes to care of any pet. He’s like the Cecil Adams of Pets. Does anyone else watch? Does anyone know something about Marc Morrone that I should know? Is he to be trusted? Does he really know all? (about pets, that is…)

I want to believe in Marc Morrone. Am I alone?

I buy my ferrets from him, and tropical fish when I’m out buying ferrets. It’s a very well run store. Unlike Petland Discount, I didn’t overhear any bad advice.

I think the fact that he has puppies, kittens, birds, rabbits, rats, g. pigs, ferrets and anything else that moves all running around together shows that he’s at least a bit of an idiot.

He definitely has something of the classic New York obsessive-compulsive hobbyist about him…the clutter of beloved objects (ie: critters) all over the place, the endless, earnest spouting of memorized facts and strong opinions…the feeling you get that if it weren’t pets, it’d be trains or baseball or opera…

I’ve watched him a few times when he was on the Martha Stewart Show (I’m sooo ashamed!). He had some really bad advice on taking care of rabbits–it was a few years ago, so I don’t remember what he said, but I haven’t trusted him on anything after that. Add me to the list of people who don’t like it that he has a big pile of animals squirming around in front of him.

ME

He tells the viewer not to do that and that he has spent time integrating his own coterie of pets. Plus, he’s watching them, plus his off-camera help is doing likewise. In the store, his own pets are kept separately (yes, he keeps his stars in the store), with others of their own kind.

He’s a pet geek, but he’s not an idiot.

He really needs to rethink the eyewear.

He’s taller than he looks on tv…

His specialty seems to be birds, ferrets, dogs and cats. I know a good bit about parrots, and have never heard him give bad advice. It was an impressive store and seemed very well run. If your scared of uncaged parrots, you may be a little intimidated.

Dante the Raven bit me (ya put your finger in a cage…) :smack:

I didn’t think he was that tall, or taller than he looked, but that’s just personal perspective.

He has one of the better if not the best selection of ferrets on Long Island. He also is the only pet shop I’ve visited that consistently has non-standard colors and patterns. He and his staff takes good care of their stock. For any NYer or Long Islander looking for exotic pets, I highly recommend his store in Rockville Center.

The general public is incredibly stupid, they do not hear “don’t do this at home” so they let their ferret play with their cockatiel because the guy in TV does it and then they are surprised when the ferret eats the bird. A quick verbal disclaimer is not good enough for a visual medium like TV, people see it and think it’s okay. In some cases it may be okay to let some species play together as youngsters but in other cases it’s a really bad idea.
He also shouts all the time, which I find really annoying. Maybe if he didn’t have to have 90 species of parrots in the room with him he wouldn’t need to shout.
