Peyton Manning to Broncos, Tebow to be traded

According to ESPN, Peyton chose Denver, and they will try to trade Tebow once the contract is signed.

If Peyton is healthy, Denver just became the pre-season AFC favorite for the next Superbowl…

Bad move for Peyton. Cold weather plus a depleted WR corp makes for an uphill battle. There is no way they would be favorites. Especially after the Pats signed Lloyd, and the Bears got Marshall. He should have gone to Arizona.

Yeah, I’m surprised Manning picked a cold weather city with an outdoor stadium. My impression (I didn’t find any indoor/outdoor splits in a few minutes of searching) is that he’s not nearly as comfortable in cold weather.

The receiver issue is a different story - if the Broncos think they can spare their first round pick, they can still try to sign Mike Wallace away from Pittsburgh.

The Bears and Arizona are not in the AFC. Denver was a playoff team last year without much in the way of offense. I think Manning puts them over the top…and I expect them to sign at least one more receiver.

Has there been any new speculation about where Tebow will wind up? What was said last week was that Tebow would be traded to Jacksonville. Would Gabbert go to Denver in basically a swap?

I can’t believe Peyton would think Denver has a better chance of winning the Super Bowl than the 49ers. Anything less would be a disappointment wherever he ended up.

That’s as big an “if” as the NFL has for the whole year. If I’m a Denver fan I’m hoping there aren’t any more unwelcome surprises like “oh, by the way, I actually had four neck surgeries, not three.” Yeah, the Broncos got to see Peyton run drills, but how controlled were those drills? What happens when Peyton gets hit hard, for the first time in over a year?

It wasn’t that long ago that reports were coming out that “Peyton still can’t throw across his body”. I guess we’re going to see how accurate those reports were real soon.

…by people who know nothing about football.

The best thing about Manning to the Broncos for me as a 49er fan is now I don’t have to worry about him getting hit in the neck again, or otherwise be pensive regarding his health.

Pretty sure I know a little about football. Possibly even as much as the great Hal Briston.

How much do you trust John Elway and the owners? I would think they would have done their due dilligence before giving him almost a hundred million dollars and/or cover their asses if he does get hurt or can’t play.

I’m disappointed. Yes, Timmy’s wins were against cupcakes and so can be viewed as hollow victories, but this feels like a desperate move.

The 12-4 Steelers in the Wildcard game were not cupcakes.

Their defense sure played like it in that game.

garygnu’s observation notwithstanding, noted. I’m among the last to find fault with Timmy. I think he was an overhyped but very talented rookie and whoever picks him up will not be sorry if they stick with him for a couple more seasons. I think Manning was an excellent choice…as a backup QB/mentor for Tebow. The guy is 36 years old (practically a dinosaur in the NFL) and has some serious mileage. He is definitely not a long-term solution.

Though, 2011 was, in fact, Tebow’s second year in the NFL – he started three games for the Broncos in 2010, and played quite a bit in Wildcat-type formations, as well.

I think any team that trades for Tebow expecting him to be a full time starting QB in the NFL will be sorely disappointed. He’s got a chance to catch on as a option/change of pace/red zone QB on a team with a passing QB, but as a full time starter, no.

If he stays healthy, Manning in the next 5 years will outperform Tebow in his entire career.

Peyton Manning isn’t going to go somewhere he isn’t going to be the starter. He’s maybe got 3-4 seasons left to get another ring. Denver gives him a decent shot at it without having to possibly knock Eli out of the playoffs before the Super Bowl, and without the drama of having to play the Colts twice a year–I think that is what eliminated Tennessee. He’s in the AFC West, which is not a particularly tough division to win.

Sorry, I thought you were just engaging in a little hyperbole. I didn’t realize you were actually calling the Broncos AFC Championship frontrunners.

Of course, it still stands that you have to ignore how much of a system guy Manning is to consider them the frontrunners for anything other than maybe the division.

Good day for me.

I have Falcons season tickets and we play Denver at home this year. Expected to see Tebow, now I’ll see Peyton (and Eli too) for that matter. Also get to see Tony Romo, Cam Newton, and presumably Drew Brees.

Sweet.
