Why doesn't Denver just release/trade Tim Tebow to a team that could use him?

Love him or hate him it seems that being drafted by Denver could turn out to be the worst thing to happen to TT because they seem intent on not playing him under any circumstance. I don’t understand teams that draft quarterbacks in the first round and then bury them without giving them any sort of chance to really develop.

Yeah he got paid, and I guess that’s the most important thing in the end, but his value declines daily as he is pushed down the depth chart and given less-to-no snaps in pre-season. There are other shitty teams that would not be a threat to denver that could use him as the primary back up if not the starter for the shittiest teams (Cleveland/Cinci/Redskins).

It just comes across low class and shady when a team drafts a high profile player and sticks them in a corner immediately with no freedom in sight.

Hell, he may even be a decent backup in Chicago where we seem intent on not giving Hanie a real shot.

  1. He’s really shitty, and has little value.
  2. His first round draft status is a total joke, as Josh McDaniel took him there, and the Broncos front staff think that’s about the worst decision in the history of football - so their assessment of his value (when they’re on the hook for all of it) is pretty relevant.
  3. He wouldn’t be able to do well anywhere else either - not only is he not a very good QB, but at this point in the game, it would very difficult for him to pick up an entirely new playbook - especially not one built around him.

If you want to bitch about a high profile player being buried in the depth chart, look no further than Denver’s current #2 QB, Brady Quinn. Yeah, he didn’t do anything at Cleveland, but who in the NFL could have done anything at Cleveland? He’s certainly not ready to start (especially over Super Bowl veteran Kyle Orton), but he’s not as green as Tebow is.

Because HE SUCKS. The people who drafted him were fucking stupid, and they’re now gone. When intelligent football people took over in Denver, they realized Tebow was extremely raw and would need a lot of time to develop (if ever) into a NFL quarterback. He is a project QB, and project QB’s are “buried” on the depth chart because they’re not good enough to play.

As I said, HE SUCKS!!! Sure, he may develop into a half way decent quarterback (personally I don’t think so), but for now, HE SUCKS. Some team may be willing to trade for him, but he wouldn’t bring anything close to a first round pick the Broncos have spent on him. Do you think there is some kind of conspiracy in Denver (something shady perhaps?) that is keeping his stellar skills from being fully realized? Do you think they have a grudge against him and are willing to cut off their own nose to spite their face?

Again: HE SUCKS!!! He’s not the best QB on the team, he’s likely not the second best QB on the team right now. He certainly has potential and maybe he will develop, but for right now, he’s where his skills and talents put him, a 3rd stringer.

The only thing that would make me happier than seeing Hanie in there is seeing Tebow. God, that would be fun watching Clay Matthews, BJ Raji, Suh, VandenBosch, and Jared Allen sitting on his head.

Is he still a virgin?

Maybe they should take him out and get him laid. It might help him to “man-up”.

Ehhhh there are ways you can mask his deficiencies. He can’t make reads so you roll him out like the falcons did with Vick. He doesn’t make good decisions, so you make the passing plays floods so he’ll have an easy checkdown. He’s got a cannon so you can run bubble screens and quick slants (no reads, just pitch and catch). You’ve got a stable of backs so you can run out of shotgun a bunch.

but i agree. he isn’t traded because he has zippy value and can’t be traded.

Because he’s not eligible for the NCAA.

Yeah, but why bother if you don’t have to? All three ahead of Tebow on the depth chart could go down with broken legs tomorrow, and Denver would sign a quarterback better than him by tomorrow night.

Out of random curiosity, I googled and it seems the Montreal Alouettes own his negotiating rights. I don’t know how long Calvillo will continue to play, but MacPherson seems like he could start in the CFL, so Tebow would have to beat him to get regular starts (I’m not knowledgeable enough to say whether or not he could). Looks like he really doesn’t have that many options if he wants to play!

I don’t understand why people say Tim Tebow sucks. He’s virtually untested in the NFL, and was easily the best college quarterback of his time. What exactly are people basing the argument that he sucks on?

The Lions (stop snickering) have a third string quarterback (Stanton) better than tebow.

By what measurement?

The Cowboys ought to get him… he can’t possibly be more of a scrub than Tony Romo. (talk about the prime example of being in the right place at the right time).

If nothing else, the fact that he started three games last year, and is now fourth on the Broncos depth chart points to an inability to play the game in the NFL.

He won’t be the first highly touted NCAA quarterback to fail in the NFL, nor will he be the last.

Well, all of them?

Or, alas, the first Gators QB to fail, but who really knows.

Eh, his starts weren’t so bad for a rookie QB, let alone a project QB. Well, caveat there, I didn’t see them, but statistically they weren’t so bad.

Just for fun, here’s what Tebow would have done if his starts could be evenly projected out to 16 games. Small sample size warning (along with other variables of course) but it’s interesting.

16G 208/432 50%Comp 3,472yds 8.0 YpA 21TD 16INT – 160runs 1061yards 16TD

Sure looks good when projected out like that. You’d think the way he’s talked about that his three starts were god awful atrocities. For a guy everyone had labeled as a major project at QB, he did as well as most rookies do when pressed into action. Strange.

I just asked for one.

Why doesn’t Denver cut Tebow? BEcause they have a lot of money invested in him, and would rather hold out until either:

  1. Tebow gives up and quits on his own

  2. SOME other team, even stupider than Josh McDaniels, offers them something valuable in trade.

I don’t see either of those things happening.

Far too often, people judge Tim Tebow by what they think of him as a person (if you’re either a born-again Christian or a Richard Dawkins fan, I can usually guess what you think of Tebow). It would be nice to hear an occasional Baptists Gator fan admit, “I LOVE the kid, but his game has a lot of weaknesses from an NFL standpoint… I’m not sure he can make the transition.” Or an occasional atheist admit, “He doesn’t look pretty, but he has an electricity in the huddle.”

As for me, my opinion of Tebow is exactly what it was before the draft: He sucks if you need a standard, drop-back passer who’s ready to step into a game and run an ordinary, pro-style offense right now. He was ALWAYS going to be a project. Which means that, while he’s probably happy he got so much money as a first round pick, his best hope as a player was to go in the 3rd or 4th round to a team that already had a top-notch quarterback and a creative head coach.

The ideal thing for him would have been to go to, say, New Orleans in the 4th round. He wouldn’t have had pressure to start for a few years (Drew BRees isn’t going anywhere) and Sean Payton is the kind of crafty strategist who could have found things Tebow CAN do in the meantime.

But as it is, Tebow is a terrible fit in Denver, and would be for most other teams.

Which is too bad. I think Ron Jaworski summed it up best: “I LIKE Tebow. I wish my daughter would marry him. But I’d rather have him as my son-in-law than as my quarterback.”

Sure, if he got to play the team with the worst passing defense in the entire NFL every game, maybe you could project his stats out over the entire season. But not every team has a passing defense as bad as the Texans, which was, by far, the best game he had in the NFL. Yet, even then, Tebow had a lower completion percentage (T - 55.2; NFL - 64.7) and lower passer rating (89.4 to 100.5) than other NFL quarterbacks. I think taking how he performed against the worst passing defense in the league and thinking that is how well he’d perform against every team isn’t really a good measure.

Because he’s got positives as well as deficiencies. Just from the stats, he’s not an accurate passer, but each of his 3 starts he scored a rushing touchdown, and runs for 70+ yards a game. You mask his deficiencies as a passer and accentuate his skills as a rusher, maybe you are better off than having a guy who is just a mediocre passer.
