The Browns would be the dumbasses, obtaining an expensive old QB coming off a serious injury. It would be just like the Chargers obtaining Johnny Unitas back in the 70s. Spending a draft pick and any money on Manning would be just the sort of stupid move the Browns would make.
What… you guys don’t appreciate a vague 4th hand report on a rumor. I’m 50% sure it is true. And if it is I’ll be back to gloat… it not… forget I ever posted here.
Unitas was coming off two really bad, really injured seasons, and was 40. Manning, while injured, in his last year threw for 4,700 yards, 33 TD’s, and was a top 10 QB. He’s also 5 years younger.
Any comparison, outside of injuries, between Manning and Unitas is silly.
The entirety of the issue with Manning is his health, not his performance. If his health is fine, he’ll be fine. Certainly risky, but seeing how the Colts played without him, I think it’s safe to say he still can play at a high level in the NFL.
That makes no sense. Yes, the Colts sucked this year, but that has nothing to do with whether Peyton is physically able to play football next year, much less how good he might be.
I expect him to retire. I think the potential for serious injury is too high, and Peyton has nothing left to prove to anyone, anyway. He’s a lock for the Hall of Fame, he has a ring, and he has more money than his great grandchildren could spend. Add to that his potential as a coach or commentator (or maybe even politics, if so inclined), and I think he’s done.
This is wrong, by the way. Cooper Manning didn’t suffer an injury, he was diagnosed with spinal stenosis. I do think it’s weird that all of this retirement has cropped up without any comments from Peyton Manning or anyone connected to him or the Colts. He had multiple surgeries, went through rehab, and was throwing to teammates by the end of the season. He’s never suggested he’s even thinking about retirement and his actions don’t indicate that he’s considering it, although it’s possible changes in the Colts’ situation could make him go that way.
Peyton ain’t playing pro no more. He can’t (shouldn’t) risk a wheelchair or a coffin.
Do you have a cite that he’s at a high risk for death or paralysis if he plays again?
The Colts playing poorly has nothing to do with the current status of his injury. But if you’re trying to say that going from 10-6 and in the playoffs with Manning to 2-14 without him isn’t indicative that he’s still really good at football, I think you’re wrong.
Not having seen his x rays, his doctor’s reports, or talked to him, I think I’ll wait and see.
Well, he’s a NFL QB.
I was exagerating for effect and not dispensing medical truths.
IYHO. Qualifying it by saying “outside of injuries” is like saying aside from his looks Lurch from the Addams Family is a handsome fellow.
Well, I don’t know how accurate that statement is. Peyton never has to pay for a meal in this city, and won’t have to for the rest of his life. And the Colts organization would love to have him - its his $28 million bonus he’ll be owed in March that’s the problem. He’s 100% untradeable, because no team out there has that kind of cash/cap room to gamble with. Most likely situation is that he gets cut, and then re-signs at a lower total.
I think a renegotiation of his contract is more likely. He’d be more likely (and able) to take his show on the road if he gets cut.
