Tiger is leading the field by 1 after 16. This could end up being one of his patented dominating weekends. He doesn’t back up very often when he’s leading a major. We might see him get #15 on sunday.
I was boldly predicting he would go five years between his last and next major.
Tiger’s out at -5. He looks dialed in on hitting fairways and greens. His putting has been good, but not great. He made no bogies, and that’s really when you know he’s on his game. He doesn’t necessarily dominate in Majors by lighting it up with birdies, but by relentlessly making par and avoiding going backwards.
Lefty on the tee.
Looks like I don’t have to worry about setting the recorder this weekend!
And Harrington is one back. They could go wire to wire together. I wonder what the record is for consecutive rounds with the same two players being paired together?
Tiger is taking this one. He’s on a mission to end the stories about his major drought. Plus he really got peeved at himself over the missed cut in Scotland.
Oh, and Dinsdale, that’s such a defeatest attitude. Had you not set the recorder for last Sunday, you’d have missed the marvelous shot over the water on 16, seen not as an isolated highlight, but as part of an ongoing drama.
Fortunately, last Sunday found me in the midst of the Olympic peninsula, where I did not see a TV for over a week (and pleasantly found I did not miss it one bit!) I happened across a Sunday paper, saw Paddy’s comments on how he wasn’t sure 3 shots would be enough, and figured it was over before it began.
In any event, I expect Tiger to make miraculous shots, the same way I expect his closest competitors to choke, so it doesn’t thrill me when the expected happens (again and again.)
We’ve discussed our differences before, but I’m reminded of how I felt back when MJ and the Bulls were nigh unstoppable. At the time I was a HUGE NBA/Bulls fan, bemoaning that the preseason games were not on TV. But after the first 3 championships, MJ’s retirement and return, I realized I was not as interested in the game as much anymore.
Tiger bores me - and I realize I am in the vast minority.
Hitting the links tomorrow for the first time in 2 weeks w/o touching a club. As crazy as this game is I have no doubt I’ll score better than I was when I was practicing/playing every day or 2.
Tiger at -5. Vijay at -4 through 9 and Paddy also at -4.
There are 20 majors among those three. I don’t expect Vijay to hang through the weekend, but I think Harrington will.
Nobody is tearing the course up today. Lefty is 6 over with 3 to play. He will not make the cut.
Is it just me or is this coverage 50% commercials?
That low? I just watched a stretch where they showed just four shots before going to commercials again.
It’s starting to look more and more over-ish. Tiger is now at 8 under through 16. Paddy Harrington and Lee Westwood are both at 4 under. Tiger looks like he’s got it in cruise control.
Who plays with him Sat. There are a bunch at -3.
Vijay Singh. I have no idea how it’s determined.
Ahem!:dubious:
Paddy hit an incredible fairway bunker shot from 300 yds to about 12 ft on hole #15 today.
If Tiger had hit that shot, how many times would the shot be replayed this weekend?
In case of ties, First in today, last out tomorrow. Since Vijay was the first player to post -3, he plays with Tiger tomorrow. Not a lot of love between those two.
He is not Tiger.
Singh and Tiger will not be gabbing as they walk down the fairways.
Going to be tough. The course is long and the wind is picking up . The poanna grass is going to make it tougher later. It is drying out and greater roll on drives and less hold on greens.
After 2;30 and Tiger finally dragged his ass out of bed and is ready to go to work.
