PGA Championship 2009

Tiger just birdied the 2nd hole to to -8. Lucas Glover is in 2nd place at -4. There is still a cluster at -3. If Tiger plays a clean card today, it’s going to be really hard for anyone to catch him. He doesn’t have to shoot the lights out, but he might do it anyway.

Putting is tough. I don’t think going low is likely. As I wrote that Tiger missed a 3 footer.

Played this a.m. - tied my best score for the year after not touching a club for 2 weeks. Go figure.

Gonna do a little house cleaning, then take a nap in the hammock. Maybe I’ll turn the tube on after while I’m cleaning my fish tanks - maybe not.

I have played greens like that. It is gut check time over and over. You have to be firm to hold line, but if you miss ,it can go 4 feet past.

Tiger lead is down to 2. He is the only top 10 not under par. He is even.

Els is 2 back in second. Who would have guessed that?

Now Tiger is one up on Herringbone. Tiger is not scaring birdies at all. He is not hitting close and is having testy par putts.

Paddy just got bird number 4. He is tied with Tiger at -7. Lots of players are doing well. Tiger is spinning his wheels.

Y. E. Yang just missed a birdie to tie for the lead. A lot of players are moving up. Tiger may not be in the last pairing tomorrow.

Tiger just chipped from one side of the green across the green into the rough , a terrible chip. Then he sunk the next one for a bird. Go figure.

Els missed a 2 footer on 18 and is 4 back again.

Next hole Tiger hits a crappy tee shot, followed by a punch out in front of the green. A par 5 ,he still had a good chance for a bird but he hit another horrible chip shot about half way to the hole leaving a 3o foot putt. Par. He is just trying to escape without too much damage now. He may not be able to…

If Tiger hangs on he will play with Yang who is tied with Herrington. He is on the green 35 feet away on 17. If he bogies either of them ,Tiger will not be in the last group.

Tiger blows a 5 footer on 18. He goes in Tomorrow with 2 stroke lead.

Tiger has never lost a Major when he leads after 54 holes. I don’t see this one being any exception. He played very well today. He didn’t go super low, but he didn’t have to. He did what he had to do to stay ahead of the field. That’s SOP for him.

Yang had a nice round today. It will be interesting to see how he does being paired with Tiger.

Tiger did not need much to run away and hide. He did not get it, The last few holes he sucked, couldn’t hit the driver, make putts, or chip. They caught him and then took turns blowing up. Els finished with 3 bogies to be 4 back.

Tiger did not play badly on the last few holes. He birdied 14 and parred the rest. Good enough to maintain a relatively effortless 2 shot lead. The others were hurt by the wind. Tiger was not.

Good chance of rain tomorrow.

60% chance of rain. They might have to finish this on monday. It’s storming here right now, as a matter of fact.

Nitpick: That’s poa annua grass. The internal "a"s are elided. Many people simply ignore pronouncing the “u”.
