The faint hope. Yang choking it away. Tiger needs this putt and has made none.
I don’t think I recognize this tiger. I would’ve put my life on that last putt [17th].
Glad I didn’t, frankly.
So if Tiger triples and yang quadruples the 18th McIlroy still has a shot!
http://www.probertencyclopaedia.com/browse/ZY.HTM Not as a slang term. That is what I was referring to.
Well I’ll be damned. Nice one Yang.
Hope he signs his scorecard and it is correct. That would give us an international incident.
Did rather well.
And every 5 year old South Korean kid who hasn’t picked up a golf club will be shopping for some Tomorrow.
I am a Tiger fan. I want him to crush Jacks majors and Sneads total wins figures. But I saw yesterday the wheels fell off. I was surprised he could not right himself. I hope he is not hurt.
Now the Asians are going to take over golf too. They will mass produce Yang clubs tomorrow .
That hybrid on 18 over the tree has to be up there for shot of the year. I’m glad he won with a shot like that.
He was missing putts today. He may be injured but that isn’t why he lost. He was making some good swings today.
If I were a betting man I’d probably still put money on Tiger getting his 19 majors, but it is far from a sure thing. Golfers typically drop off of their peak performance after age 35, and Tiger thus may only have ~2 more years of prime play left in him. Jack himself won 6 more majors from ages 34+. If some young gun (Yang, at 37, isn’t it) comes and challenges him and starts taking the majors that the likes of journeymen like Yang & Cink occasionally steal from him now, he may have a rough time of it (and IMNSHO we are wayyy overdue for a twentysomething to turn it on and become one of the best-Sergio has pretty much flamed out, and I don’t see anyone else on the horizon).
I’ve been expecting that for years, but I’m beginning to wonder if I was wrong. There really didn’t used to be many people who golfed young, and a much smaller number who really took it seriously.I always kind of predicted that Tiger would become a victim of his own success. After Tiger’s dad pretty much devoted Tiger’s life to golf his whole life, I saw many other dads doing the same thing. The Number of 5-10 year old kids being drug to the Driving range everyday went up 10 fold overnight when Tiger hit the spotlight.
And out of the huge influx of players starting golf younger,I expected there to be whatever small number of them who took to the game and grew into bodies that allowed them to become elite.
But… That wave of kids should be 18-22 now and if they are going to be dominating everything, they should have a good start at it by now, and they just don’t seem to be there. I don’t know why.
And some horrible ones. Too many of them.
Tiger is not on his way out, nor is he likely injured. He has had some inconsistency this year, but he still has put together five tour wins coming back from knee surgery. That’s one hell of a year, even Tiger thinks he has played amazingly this year as a whole. That he didn’t win a major is also not a huge deal. Jack took three years to get his 15th after his 14th, and I think it turned out ok for him.
He was definitely off his game today, though, and good on Yang for putting together a great round (remember that he had the low round of the day).
It was Yang’s time - he was focused, never got rattled, and played his game.
Tiger, for whatever reason, just could not make the clutch puts that he usually does. Probably doesnt help that he seemed to keep the ball right out of position most of the day.
I think that was the groaniest rounds of golf I’ve ever watched - Tiger wasn’t the only one lipping the cup, but you never expect it to be tiger that does it.
fucking AMAZING shot… could he even see the flag?
Congratulations to Yang Yong-eun. He didn’t get rattled playing with Tiger and he made some great shots.
As always you know you’re pretty damn good when top 10 finishes at three of the majors and 5 tour wins for the season means you’ve had a disappointing year.
Me so happy!
Way to go Yangsterman! See what it takes Veej, Lefty, Paddy, Ernie, et al?
