PGA Championship 2021

Welp, Phil just 2 putted for a birdie on 2 to take a 2 stroke lead, but 34 long holes to go (longest course ever for the PGA). Would be awesome if he won.

4 up with 8 to go to get major #6.

6 up with 6 to go. In match play they call that “dormie”…

Unbelievable.

Goes into the drink on 13. He has a nice cushion though, so it hopefully wont hurt him too much.

Helluva chip on 16.

I’m feeling a bit like Shooter McGavin here. This crowd is trash. Get off the course and let them play.

Wowza.

Note next month he plays for the only major he doesn’t have, on a course he’s won on twice and played many times.

Before the PGA, ESPN listed golfers in several categories according to their perceived chances of winning.

Tier I was the real contenders, Tier II would have a chance if everything went right, Tier III would need a miracle.

ESPN put Mickelson in Tier IV, golfers who should be happy to make the cut.

Ah, the “Put those forks away!” moment. Wonderful. As someone who’s currently on the downswing of a bunch of things myself, seeing him pull away, weather the bad shots, and not crap out on the final day was an inspiration. Gotta hand it to the man…he’s had more than his share of rough patches and coulda-shouldas (still remember this list), and he’s staunchly refused to become washed up. If he can win a major pushing 51, there’s hope for us all.

Five more years! Five more years!
