My friend asked me this question…and i have been pondering this just for the sake of pondering, it’s either a good conversation stopper or a good conversation starter:
If you had a clone of yourself, and you had sex with your clone, would you be gay? or just masturbating? Think about it…
It would be homosexual incest, as the clone would effectively be your twin. In fact it might even be classed as homosexual incestuous paedophilia, as the clone would most likely be much younger than you…
Just cuz someone has sex with another person of the same gender one time doesn’t mean they are gay or bi, at least not according to my definitions of gay and bi.
This sooooo does not belong in GQ.
Why do people think a clone is anything other than a human being that happens to have the exact same DNA as another human being? A clone is nothing more than an identical twin (as someone else pointed out), there’s nothing mystical or metaphysical about it.
whoa ok, i figured the question would be read wrong, it’s not necessarily something that i would do myself. It’s just a question, i was hoping that no one would call me bi. The reason i asked this is primarily to get the answer that the two of us would not share a consciousness, and therefore would not be the same person, and it would be gay incest. But, at the same time, in a nutshell, sex with yourself is classified as “masturbation.” I guess I should work better on my ideas before i foolishly rush into asking frivolous questions. As we all know, ‘self’ is a continuation of consciousness, and two seperate beings would have two different realms of consciousness. I was just hoping someone would go into great detail, because hearing other peoples ideas are why i choose to write here.
BTW, what does “OP” mean? i’m not familiar with message boards
Nowadays it’s a standard staple of scifi. Though notice that people believe twins (identical twins more often) have some ‘mystical connection’ as well.
As to how it started? Maybe someone described cloning as ‘creating a perfect copy of someone’ and someone listening didn’t have their brain switched on.
On preview: OP=“opening post” or “opening poster.”
Don’t panic. We all ask questions that other people are impatient with. If you go on listening to the answers and not overdoing the questions there’s nothing wrong.
I think a more interesting way of framing the question, which, I believe, gets more to the heart of what the OP is really asking, is this: If you were to find yourself somehow duplicated, on both a physical and mental level, would intercourse with your duplicate be masturbatory?
Possible permutations include:
Hypothetical “transporter accident” a la Star Trek: wherein both duplicates are truly identical, but are presumed to now be different entities, albeit physically identical and with a common set of memories
Temporal displacement: wherein one of the “duplicates” is of a different age that is to say one “self” is the other “self’s” future. What would the ramifications be in regards to age of consent?
Physical and mental temporary duplication: such as the super heroine Triplicate Girl/Duo Damsel/Triad (is?)are capable of, wherein the individuals are all identical at the point of separation, and will only have separate existences for a limited time, after which the bodies and memories will all merge into one.
Physical separation without mental separation: such as (I think) Madrox the multiple man experiences- all duplicates are still psychically linked and so controlled by one central intelligence.- or alternately, multiple intelligences that will remerge with each other, and also have telepathic communication until that occurs.
Another possibility, not quire in keeping with the opening post, but perhaps more plausible- more than one “self” inside a single body: For example- assume a person who suffers from (or enjoys) DID (basically multiple personality disorder). If one “alter” (in quotes because not everyone prefers that verbiage) were to control, for example, the hands, while another alter controlled the rest of the body… well I’ll leave it at that. (not saying this is possible/plausible, just more so than the other ideas) Several interesting permutations are possible here- for example does it mean the multiples are bi instead of homosexual if one of the alters is of a different gender?
