Philly Dopefest Sunday April 15

Looking like it’s going to be more “a few people hanging out for a while” than a full-fledged Dopefest – oh well. Assume we’ll get together middayish on the Sunday, have some lunch, maybe walk around a little if it’s a nice day. I PMed you my phone number, right?

April 15th is a possibility, but I’ll have to play this one by ear for the next little bit.

Sure did. Will contact you after we hit Philly. “A few people hanging out for a while” sounds okay.

As people’s plans solidify closer to the date, we may have more people.

Meanwhile, I’m counting down the days. It’s been a while since I’ve been to Philly, and I’m really excited about seeing everyone.

Tuesday morning and leaving for the airport in about 24 hours. This may be my last log-in before then, as we’ll be busy getting ready today. But we’ll check in with Twickster and see you on Sunday the 15th about noon.

Got a PM from Siam Sam last night – they’re in NYC and on track (sic) to arrive in Philly by train Saturday evening.

He specifically mentioned the Continental, which is at 2nd and Market – I’m fine with that. Time: 1 PM is better for me than noon, so let’s say 1 PM.

If it’s a group of at least six, we can make a reservation – not sure what the count is.

Planning to come:

Siam Sam and wife
twickster
MsRobyn

Then there are several “maybes” – time to decide, guys.

All are most definitely welcome.

I shall definitely be there.

Ah, good!

That works for me, too.

What’s the parking situation like there?

See y’all Sunday!

We may have six after all; the sprog may be joining us if the babysitter can’t take him.

There’s a garage on 2nd Street between Chestnut and Walnut (on the left), only two blocks from the restaurant. Parking on the street is strictly a crap shoot, but if you do see a spot, make sure it’s legal (and that you pay for it) – the parking authority is the most efficient department in city govt.

I’m in for this, too.

Yay! I was wondering if you were back. (Your FB comments are so few and far between.) Haven’t seen you in eons.

The sitter (actually, she’s the sprog’s Aunt Walter) came through, so I’m coming solo. The sprog was disappointed, though, when I told him because he was looking forward to a trip to Philly and was salivating when he saw the lunch menu. Truthfully, he’s matured enough that I trust him not to misbehave, but it wouldn’t be fun for him to be schlepped around to places the adults want to see, I don’t want to inflict a bored, cranky kid on the group, and I don’t want to deal with a bored, cranky kid myself. Besides, he’s seen all this stuff before, so I don’t feel like I’m depriving him of an educational experience.

Oh well – as you say, he probably wouldn’t have a very good time, since it’s mostly going to be adults yakking, delightful as all of those adults are.

Sounds like we’ve got six, anyway, so I’ll make a reservation tomorrow, to give a few more people a chance to sign on if they want (both ultrafilter and olivesmarch4th expressed some interest but weren’t sure of their plans, last I heard).

It doesn’t look like I’m going to be able to make it. Y’all have fun.

Bummer. Haven’t seen you in a long time.

I’ve made a reservation for 6 at 1 PM tomorrow at the Continental at 2nd and Market, name is Cecil Adams.

If anyone wants my cell number and doesn’t have it, PM me.

Never mind. The sitter conked out. I have extracted a promise from the sprog that he will be on his best behavior, or the ghost of Ben Franklin is going to rise from the grave to exact serious punishment.

Hope it was fun, but had too much to do as I’m going to Germany on Wed.

It was fun. Perhaps you can make it next time.
