We had a small but spirited turnout at the Coffee Plantation in the Biltmore plaza. I tried my new cheaper than dirt digital camera and found why it was so cheap. Most of the flash pictures are so washed out as to be unusable but fortunately the group shot came out okay. http://members.home.com/spad1/dopers/Phoenix_3.jpg is the group shot (L-R Strainger, Undead Dude, Nicky, Opalcat and Padeye) Special had a rough day at work so she wasn’t able to make it. Geez, we just had our get-together last night and already this thread has been knocked down to the second page!? I had a good time meeting Opal and UDD and seeing Padeye again. There was a lot of computer talk between Opal, UDD, and Padeye that went over my head. The conversation I had with Nicky went over my head as well. It was too bad that Tessa didn’t make it. I quit looking for her firey-red hair at around 7:00. Although, it was fun slamming her like we did (heh heh). If I had to use one word to describe the Coffee Plantation, that word would be “cold.” I didn’t want Opal or UDD to think I was a wimp (Opal had on a T-shirt; UDD had on shorts, I was wearing a long-sleeved, heavy shirt and pants), but I damn near froze my ass off in there. I think the A/C was set to about 40.
Nicky got a big laugh when Padeye took his picture (because of the flash). He also got a good chuckle when I put my napkin into my empty cup. Nicky is easy to amuse. He thought we were “cool.”
Opal, UDD, and Nicky had to adjourn early to go have dinner with UDD’s dad, so Padeye and I went to grab a bite at Dan Ryan’s Sports Grill. I ran the heater in my truck the entire way over (something you just don’t do in Arizona, in April) because I was so damn cold. Over dinner, we discussed music, guns, women, and “why the hell do my knuckles itch so bad??”
I had a great time at this get-together and look forward to manny more. It’s unfortunate that the cities out West are so far apart compared to the cities in the mid-West/East. Otherwise, we could get more out-of-towners to the gatherings (or attend more out-of-town gatherings). I’m looking forward to seeing Opal and UDD’s photos from the trip, particularly the Church of the Cosmic Christ in Tucson.

Wow, I just finally found this thread! I finally resorted to a search.
We had a lot of fun… Nicky really enjoyed meeting people–he was pretty sure the whole event was just for him. 
And it wasn’t cold! It was nice! Yer just a wuss 
I lost the power cable for my laptop, so I’m getting a new one. As soon as I have it I’ll retrieve my photos (including the CHurch of the COsmic Christ)
Glad you finally found it Opal. I look forward to seeing your pictures. Were you trying to make an acronym, or did you just have trouble getting you finger off the the shift key? I spent about 5 minutes trying to pronounce “CHCOC” before giving it up.
And yes it was cold, unless you’re some sort of weirdo from one of those cold places, like Virginia.
Actually, I think I talked to Nicky more than the rest of the group that night. We discussed 401Ks, home financing options, 18th century English literature, etc.
