I’m up for it. There are a few of us who live in the Phoenix area - special, Padeye, Zion, and a fairly new poster whose name I can’t recall. I don’t know of any posters living in Tucson so I think Phoenix would be the best place for a gathering. Can any of you other Phoenix Dopers make it? Where’s UUD’s sister’s wedding reception going to be? Maybe we can all hook up there!

I’m there. Do you want to plan an evening or daytime activity? If you’re u p for something out of the ordinary for a get together May is a good time to float down the Salt R. in an inner tube. We could make quite a little armada.
Eeek! Unless they’ve done some major cleaning since I lived there, the Salt River is icky! DIdn’t that one guy have to have his leg amputated after getting it cut while rafting down the river??
Anyway, I’d actually prefer something not outdoors. . . too hot for me (much of the reason I left!)

The last time I floated the salt was last year at the end of the season. I wouldn’t drink the water and it’s not a good idea to go in with an open cut but it’s not a sewer. A co-worker accidentally cut her hand pretty badly just before we started and didn’t have any problems.
Doesn’t sound like your cuppa anyway so I’m sure we can find a good coffee bar. I heard Coffee Plantation was sold to some nationwide chain. I hope they didn’t ruin it.
Personally, I always bring along a plastic cup and scooping up some delicious Rio Salado agua to enjoy on the trip. Some other time, I guess. I assume you’d be coming up from Tucson. If so, I can come up with several places near I-10 and the other freeways. Padeye, would you and special want to drive all the way down to the Chandler Blvd/Ray Rd area?
Well, actually, we’d probably come up early in the day and go to my father in law’s house, and then from there go to the “whatever we decide on” event thing… so North Mountain area is where we’ll be coming from.

Opal, Padeye, special, and I have been communicating through email, but I thought it would be a good idea to post here in case anyone who hasn’t weighed in yet is interested in attending. Anyway, it looks like we’re meeting at the Coffee Plantation at Biltmore Fashion Park (24th St. and Camelback). Are we going to do this Friday or Sunday? What time? I think Opal and UDD probably have the tightest schedule of any of us so let us know what would be best for y’all.
I’d like to encourage all of the Arizona Dopers to attend this gathering if they are able. And Zion, I’d also like to encourage you to bring your sister, Ashely Judd. Or, you can just send your sister. Seriously, we always have a good time and, so far, everyone has gotten along very well. As an example, mouthbreather was uncomfortable with the idea of attending the Atlanta gathering and ended up expressing his regret. If you’re wondering what to expect, here are the minutes from the last Phoenix get-together. Do not worry; there is nothing to fear, except my mullet.
There’s another Doper from Arizona who is relatively new (I think). I was going to pick on him/her, but I can’t get the f@#!*ing search engine to work. You know who you are. Be there.
OK, Arizona lurkers, the final plans have been made. We are meeting at 7:00 on Friday, May 12 at the Coffee Plantation at Biltmore Fashion Park (24th St. and Camelback) in Snobsdale. I look forward to seeing special, Padeye, Opal, UDD, and anyone else who wants to surprise us by showing up.
