Scottsdale, AZ, anyone?

I am going to be in Scottsdale (Pheonix), AZ this coming Sunday (3/18) through Tuesday (3/20) on business.

I will be free in the evenings… anyone interesting live out there? Wanna show me the sights? Buy me a drink? Take me golfing?

Let’s have a mini-fest… whaddya say?

Hey,

I can’t be there when you are, but make sure you hit Mill Ave. in Tempe. Let’s just say it’s Arizona State’s answer to Mardi Gras.
Good times!

Tripler
I used to live in Prescott, and Mesa. Trust me.

Doesn’t anyone live in or around Pheonix?

Mauviase? Theobroma? Stringer?

Anyone?

Padeye here and Strainger lives here too. Scottsdale covers a big area, where are you staying. Strainger and I might be talked into raising a few with you.

Sorry - didn’t know.

I’ll be in the Hilton resort on North Scottsdale Road.

I arrive this afternoon (Sunday) and leave Tuesday afternoon. All I have to do tonight is be at a cocktail party, then Mon and Tues I am busy 9-5.

OK - now I’m here, accessing the SDMB from a laptop in my hotel room.

It’s beginning to look like I’ll be friendless during my stay here in the Sunshine state (or whatever Arizona is).

:frowning:

Welcome to the Valley of the Sun, sdimbert! (Arizona is the Grand Canyon State, in case you hadn’t noticed it on our license plates when you arrived.)

If I had read this thread sooner, I’d have tried to hook up with you, but, sadly, it is Sunday evening as I write, I have a cold, and I think I’m just going to eat my left-over corned beef and turn in. Tomorrow I have an engagement with my volunteer group.

Enjoy your stay, anyway - do visit Mill Avenue for a good time at night. If you want to shop, you’re right near the best mall in the Valley (Scottsdale Fashion Square).

Good luck!

Julie

I’ll jangle Strainger and see if he’s about but we might be able to swing a mini-dopefest tomorrow night after work. I’ll email you my mobile number. Mill Avenue is a good place go in the evening and reasonably central for all out locations.

Jadailey, I hope you don’t have the butt kicking flu that’s going around. Get better.

Thank you, Padeye, for trying to hook up with my poor, lonely woogims. Just don’t let him con you into a poker game. sdimbert’s a shark.
sdimbert:
ILU, IMU, IWU

Padeye, I got your email around 11:00 and didn’t want to call that late; I will call you in the morning.

jdimbert, why did you have to blow my cover? Just you wait 'till I get home…

IMU2, ILU2, IWU2!

Sorry, SDimbert, I’m tied up this weekend, and Monday evening as well. :frowning: Mill Ave is nice, though. I just don’t like it as much as some do because it’s across the street from ASU. (Shudder)

-Theobroma (U of A, class of '85)

Thanks for the tip. I’ll leave my money at home.

I still haven’t been able to get hold of Strainger but why don’t we try meeting at the Coffee Plantation on Mill between 7:30 and eight. If coffee isn’t your poison of chose there’s a good brew pub up the street.

sdimbert: I can vouch for the warm hospitality (and cold drinks!) from Padeye and Strainger. We had a great mini-dopefest in October when I was in Scottsdale for business. Have fun! I still have fond memories of meeting with you. Wish I could be there!

Well, it happened after all!

I attended my first DopeFest: since I was new, we kept it small. Padeye and I met for a cup of coffee at a nice outdoor spot in Pheonix (actually Scottsdale. Or Mesa… or something).

Thanks, Padeye, for coming out and showing me a good time!

Pictures will come as soon as Padeye gets them scanned. Right?

FWIW We were in Tempe but it all runs together and I was confusing you buy mentioning Tempe, Chandler, Mesa and Gilbert during the evening. Picture (singular) should be scanned by this weekend. Glad you enjoyed what hospitality I could offer. I got a message from Strainger today and he was out of town and didn’t get back until about the time I was dropping you off at the hotel.

Sorry I missed it, but I was sick all weekend. Hopefully next time!

Thanks. My hubby had the butt-kicker - I just have a cold. Pain in the tuckus, but better than the flu. Sorry I missed your visit, sdimbert.

Anyway - regarding future AZ get-togethers, the DBacks season tickets I mentioned in an earlier thread arrived yesterday. We have four (pretty good) seats - who wants to go, and when? Since I feel guilty about snagging the tickets for the non-NL West teams who’ll only be here once, what about Sunday, April 22, against the Rockies? 1:35 gametime (subject, as always, to change).

Julie

Date and time sound good to me, however, I’m not the biggest baseball fan around (I’d be going more to socialize with some fellow Dopers), if more than 4 want to go, I’ll gladly wait for a non-baseball gathering

I can do the DBacks game as well, although my attitude is pretty much the same as Mauvaise’s when it comes to baseball. I’d be willing to flip a coin with her if it came down to it. Thanks for setting this up for us, Julie!

While I’m excited about the Doper baseball game, I wouldn’t mind having another Doper get-together before then (I mean, sheesh, it’s been forever since I’ve seen Padeye, for one thing). Pretty much any weekend between now and the ballgame would work with me (My God, I have four free weekends? Inconceivable!). Would y’all like to set something up? Where would y’all be coming from? I’m from the Southeast Valley, and Padeye is from North Phoenix. Maybe we could convene at one of the fine establishments on Mill Ave.

The 22nd works for me and I agree with Jeff that we should have a get together before then.
