phrases that make you think the speaker is full of crap

What phrases instantly set your mind to red alert? Maybe I’ve seen too many Don King interviews, but I can’t hear anyone say, “I am shocked and dismayed…” without thinking they’re full of it.

What’s weirder is I’ve heard several people say it, I thought something that phony would be exclusive to Don King.

“My fellow Americans…”

My GF’s spidey sense tingles anytime someone says “Trust me.”

“This is no shit, man…”

“Send this message to all your friends.”

“I’m not predjudiced, but…”

“To be perfectly honest with you…”

Why do we need this clarification? Are you normally not honest??

I guarantee you that if anyone ever starts or ends an anecdote with these two words they are full of shit:

“True story.”

Ergo, vis a vis, and concordantly.

I’m going to second ‘I’m not racist, but…’ and also all of its variants, including, ‘I don’t have anything against gays, but…’ and ‘No offense, but…’

“Clearly…”

JEEZus I hate that. As if they’re the only person with clarity of thought and the rest of us are idiots if we don’t agree. Although this is sometimes true, you don’t start a statement like that.

When someone utters the following in the middle of a sentence:

“… blaa blaa blaa and it’s perfectly legal blaa blaa blaa…”

bets are that it’s definitely not legal or (at the very least) ethical…

Whenever someone starts citing bible stuff or the fact that someone is a good religious person.

“I just pooped into your subwoofer”

“Dennis Hastert is constipated”

“Mfmfmfmmff mmmff mfmff mmff mfmfmff mmmmfffmf mmfff mmmf”

“… in fact, some of my best friends are…”

And just what is that supposed to prove?

when they use the phrase “for all intensive purposes”

In writing: “Wah-lah” or “pursay”

Dear Penthouse,…

I think I’m in love with Nurse Carmen.

“I won’t waste too much of your time…”

“This is not a sales pitch, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime offer!”

Olsen: You don’t generally score political points for being Christian in Canada, either, which is not a country of uniform religion. (Some people tried to trade on their religions in the last federal election and were basically laughed at until they stopped.)

Impressive. My first thought when I saw the title was “The United States of America believes…”

“Quite frankly…”
I apprecieate a frank comment as much as anyone else [maybe even more than some] but whenever somebody uses this phrase, I automatically think that everything that subsequently comes out of their mouth is pure bullshit.
