Part of me wants to go, part of me wants to stay away out of respect for the family. Another part says I shouldn’t give these morons the attention they want. And yet the prospect of watching this train wreck is strangely appealing.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Of course they may not show. They were supposed to be in Morris last week and they no showed. Maybe they’ll do that here.
I’d go with a camera with the intent to take pictures for the SDMB (mainly because I just a got a new digital camera and like playing with it), but I’d judge whether it was an appropriate thing to do once I got there.
In our last thread on Phred the Evil, bagpipes were recommended but that’s not your question.
Get a bunch of friends, go near the funeral as a show of support, but don’t get directly involved. Bring American Flags. Be very respectful. A quiet show of support is the best.
Maybe someone could find the last Phred at a Funeral thread and link it.
I haven’t heard anything about any counter-protests yet, although I’m sure there will be some. It’s hard for me to imagine the folks around Naperville letting this happen without some sort of reaction.
I don’t know the Marine or his family which is why I was unsure about going. After thinking about it, I am going to go as a show of support for the family. Some of my classmates have agreed to go as well. As was previously suggested we plan on giving a silent show of support. I’ve clued in the people going with me in regards to the tactics the Phred cult will use and they are prepared to do nothing in response to them.
The protest is planned for noon tomorrow (Friday). I will have a camera, but I won’t know if I’ll take any pictures until I get there (as Revtim said). I’ll report back to the SDMB after I get home, and I’ll find some place to post any pictures I take.
“Phred” is the name of BD’s Vietnamese friend in Doonesbury, a decent and honorable character. Plus my dad used to have a car named after him. Why must it now be associated with this assclown?
Come and listen to my story ‘bout a man name Fred
A bold minister with lots of hate inside his head.
And then one day he was lookin’ for a cause,
And said to himself “I’ll hate homosexuals!” Queers that is, sodomites
Well the next thing you know ol’ Fred’s a picketeer,
Cursing anything that acts remotely queer.
We think that somewhere else is where he really oughta be,
And while he’s at it he can take his whole darn family. Siberia, Timbuktu
Well now it’s time to say good bye to Fred and all his kin
We’re sorry but we can’t say that we’re glad that they dropped in.
But if by chance they should come back to this locality,
We’ll have to show them some of our great hospitality. Tar that is, feathers.
I go to his site regularly because I find him hilarious (OK - yes I do have a very weird sense of humour). As an example, the first few lines of their description of a protest at the US Supreme Court say
my, they sure are humble!
Anyway, if they have any nasties on their site I almost certainly would have stepped in one; I keep my antivirus, zonealarm, and various antispyware programs up to date and I haven’t seen any problems, so at least for the time being his site is safe to visit (if that sort of thing turns you on).
I wish I could take the credit for that little number. But I originally heard it at a rally here in Topeka, composed and sung by an all girl group called Home Maid Jam.
