I consider Fred to be a real life version of an Internet troll. I don’t believe that they are serious about half of what they claim to believe. They just try to come up with the craziest and most offensive things they can for attention.
It WOULD be nice if everyone could just ignore it (as you should do with an internet troll) but I know that people won’t (just like they never do with internet trolls).
Oh, they’re serious. Internet trolls don’t have a religion motivating them. I have no doubt the Phelpses believe sincerely in their dogma.
You know, for a moment I thought it might be a badge of honour to have them picket my funeral. It would mean I did something right with my life.
I still think Louis Theroux. His documentary ends with him speculating that perhaps Phelps went insane or has a hate addiction that has overwhelmed his ability to reason.
The people around him? Who knows? Some people are drawn to strong and aggressive leaders.

Considering how quickly she was buried, I wonder if they actually made it?
He protested at Mister Rogers’s funeral, or at least, he tried to. Apparently a group of people surrounded them and sang songs from Mister Rogers’s Neighborhood. 
The Phredites also tried to picket the funeral of President Clinton’s mom. Free speech or no, they got nowhere* near* that one!
Thankfully, they were a no-show. Guess they didn’t prepare for the fact that she converted to Judaism before she married Eddie Fisher.
