Physics of rape

Sorry that this is sort of a distasteful topic, but I have kind of wondered this for a little while.

When I am trying to have sex, I have to lubricate my girlfriend or I have no chance of insertion. Of course she has her own lubrication, but many times this is not enough. I don’t think I have an abnormally large penis or anything. I am probably a little bigger than average, but I am no Long Dong Johnson by any means.

How in the hell do rapists even get inside their victims. I mean, they are definitely going to be dry and they are not going to be very receptive. For that matter, how in the hell do prison rapes work. Getting into a guys ass has got to be impossible.

Plus, a lot of rapes seem to damage the girl’s vagina or the guy’s ass. How the hell does it not also damage the rapist’s penis? I would think it would tear the hell out of it.

Now that I have written this question and reread it, I may not want to know the answers to these questions.

The above site may or may not answer your question but it’s as much source material as I think you’ll find re the survivor’s stories. With respect to the “physics” part I don’t think it’s too much of a mystery. As an example per your query about male rape, while you may think of yourself as a strong and fearless soul -ie “No man could ever do that to ME”, I will practically guarantee you that there is a point between injury and death where most humans (including yourself) will physically “break” and submit to
whatever it is that your attacker demands to make the torture, beating and pain stop.
"Welcome to Escaping Hades. My name is Lis and I was raped six years ago. I tell my story on this site, many other survivors have told their stories here, and I hope that you will tell your story, too. I hope that you will find many useful resources here and learn to call this site a home for your healing.

If you take one thing with you when you leave this site, please let it be the knowledge that it was not your fault. It does not matter what you wore, or how you acted. It does not matter if you were friends with, dating or married to your attacker. It does not matter if you were intoxicated. You were the victim. Now, you are the survivor.

The links above will take you through the site. Please stay safe when exploring Escaping Hades, as many pages may be triggering. If you have just been raped or assaulted, and you are coming here to learn more about your options, and what you should do, please click here. For more on the meaning of the name of this site, please click here. If you are here because you are doing a paper, project or report, please click here."

I assume that you stop when you cause pain and discomfort to your girlfriend. Rapists don’t care if they hurt their victims, some prefer it that way.

Same as above, when several male prisoners decide that they want to do that to you…it will get done, it just varies how badly they hurt you before it happens. As most rapists find out when they get to prison.

Hope this satisfies your curiosity.

Objective answer: Blood acts as a lubricant. And both vaginal and rectal tissue will tear and bleed before the penis will, thereby providing the necessary lubricant before the rapist is significantly injured. Unfortunately.

Riiiiiiiiight… this is a screwed up topic.

I spent seven years doing rape crisis counseling (volunteer) at Denver General Knife & Gun Club (Hospital.) Perhaps 300 people? These people for the most part came to the ER directly after the rape…I got them through the rape kit (evidence collection), talked, contacted friends & family, arranged rides, gave hugs, talked people down, whatever. I helped the docs & nurses with the exam & was in the room the whole time.

I saw very little evidence of vaginal trauma unless something other than a penis was used (gun, bottle, etc.) I don’t know why…perhaps fear & adrenaline helps the body defend itself.

I can’t really answer directly to the OP. However, I do want to point out that rape/sexual assault often does not involve penis-vaginal sex. It is no less traumatic to be raped at gunpoint with a glass bottle, held down & gang raped digitally, forced to give head at knife point while your children are sleeping in the next room, tied up while the guy masturbated on you, or had men play Russian Roulette with your vagina & a loaded firearm.

A pretty similar question was asked and answered here:

http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=14943

The general answer seemed to be that some women can and often do lubricate during rape, not because they’re enjoying it but because the body’s natural response to penile insertion and intercourse is to lubricate. A very disturbing thread, as is this one.

[note] But it did provide me my first opportunity to post a link to an old thread. [/note]

The victim’s body may produce lubrication as a purely physical response that has nothing to do with arousal. This may not happen with all rape victims, but it does with some. I know that many victims have suffered guilt over this, wondering if maybe on some level they “really wanted it”, because they didn’t realize that their body was just trying to protect itself from being hurt even more.

Whoops, sorry for the simulpost, AkashJ.

riiiiiiiiiight… again… screwed up topic.

To the OP, you and I are both male. We can’t even begin to understand the sheer terror experienced by a victim of this revolting crime (well, male prison inmates can - I hope convicted rapists’ knowledge is broadened in this particular way). Rapists can perform the act simply because they are bigger and stronger than their victims - and that is pure cowardice. At once, they discredit, and are not worthy of, the term “man”.

I get the feeling you disapprove of the OP, right, seeing as two of your three posts ever are to that effect.

Knowledge is never screwed up. Here’s a thought for you: how many times do you figure a rapist was found not guilty because a juror thought “well, the girl got wet. That means she was aroused. That means she wanted it, so the guy didn’t rape her”? If our hypothetical juror has been provided information on this “screwed up topic”, perhaps he/she won’t make the wrong decision.

Lack of moisture does not stop a determined rapist. Just another reason they deserve death. IMO, of course.

What about ‘Dry sex’ that is the nrom in Africa? This one reason why AIDS is spreading so fast. Men prefer dry-sex for some screwed up reason there. Women go so far as to use detergent-douches to dry out their vaginas. Sick and wrong, IMO, but it seems to work for them.

The reason I asked this is basically because I had just finished watching American History X. In the scene where Norton gets raped in the shower, he is left with a bloody torn asshole that needs stitches. I would think that it would also tear up the rapist’s penis.
