I’d like to create more galleries like this, a sequence of pictures plus commentary/notes. I’m wondering whether to carry on using Flickr, or use Picasa, or some other service? All opinions or relevent experience welcome.
I’ve checked the relative costs: on Flickr only the 200 most recently uploaded images will show - for more capacity I have to sign up to ‘Pro’ and buy what I need. With Picasa web albums I get 1gb free with the option of buying more Gb as needed. Both are fairly inexpensive.
(BTW I’m not interested in the Picasa software for organising + viewing files on my computer. I’m only interested in Picasa web albums, as a way of creating online galleries my friends or others can see.)
A web geek friend suggested Flickr might offer a better interface and better integration facilities with my various websites. But he admits he has little experience with Picasa.
I used to have a yahoo photo account, so all of that stuff got transferred over to Flickr. I still use it occassionally–I think the biggest plus there is the community. I rarely tag my photos, but I’ve gotten (mostly) positive comments on a few that I did tag from people on Flickr. One of my pics even got chosen for an online travel guide.
I use Picasa almost all the time now; I just like the interface better. The google download works great for organizing pictures on your computer, it has some decent editing tools, and it it’s a snap to upload stuff to your online albums. I’m not sure how much storage Flickr gives me for my “Pro” account, but for $20/year, I get 80G of storage from Picasa.
I use the Picasa photo editor. The only thing I don’t like about it is that the only way to resize photos is to export them to another file, which means you’re now storing two photos of the same thing and eating up disk space.
